So we went out to Tractor Supply Co. yesterday to get some critter food and, on the way back, the Misses says she wants to go out for lunch. Well it's only 11:00 and we're just passing Gander Mountain, and hey, it's too early anyway, so I figure we'd just stop in and take look around a bit. You know, kill a little time before lunch.

So we're checking out the isles and notice that ammo is still hard to come by. A lot of shotgun, 17 HMR, some 7mm and 270. Really bleak selection. I notice a lot of folks hanging around the counters with a couple of sales associates doing a brisk business.

So I belly up to the glass cases and then I saw it! Is that what I think it is? OMG ... it is. Pay dirt!!! A brand new Ruger SR1911 model 6700 sitting right next to a Kimber. Then I see the price $799 ... Ouch! I've been waiting for almost a year for a LGS to get one in from Davidson's for $655, but they're still on the allocated list and waiting. What do I do? Hmmm... Doesn't hurt to look, does it? So I take a number (26) and notice they're on 18. After a couple of minutes of comparing it cosmetically to the Kimber next to it, I'd say it doesn't look that much different. Now I'm not even remotely comparing it to a Kimber, but the Kimber is $1399! As fate would have it, no-one was between 19 and 25 and before I know it, it's my turn. Can I help you please? Oh yes sir ...that one! I really shouldn't have picked it up. It felt right, looked good, and darn ... I have been waiting. That was it. Here's my drivers license and voter registration card. So I fill out the 4473, get approved in short order, and before you know it, we're all happily exiting the store!

I really didn't want to pay extra for it, but I figured that with FFL fee and shipping, the opportunity cost, though high, was worth it to me! Yeah, i know Gander Mountain prices are a bit higher, yes i could have gotten cheaper, but I had waited long enough. I have no remorse. It's mine. Now I have to find time to take it out to the range. But that's another story!

Congratulations. No worries, if you wanted it, and were willing to pay their price, that is all that matters. You know, you can make up for that purchase by shopping around and finding a few really good deals on other guns now. It would be like you never over paid at all, lol.
That is how I have justified overspending on a gun in the past. I have a couple guns that I really didnt need, but they were great deals, so if I ever get in that position it will keep things a little more balanced.

Hey, if you wanted it, why not? The way I look at it is you never know what the future holds as far as finances are concerned. There might come a period of time when you are struggling a bit. So might as well buy when you can afford. Nice gun!

Nice pistol. A stainless 1911 for under 800 is an good deal these days.

For $655 you would have stole it. $799 is still a great value on a stainless 1911.
I've had one for almost a year and love it. Well balanced and very easy to hit with. Took mine to a bullseye shoot and scored a 505 out of 600 with it before getting a full break in completed. Eventually I'm gonna have to order the eagle wing grip inserts. My opinion is that it is the best looking stainless in it's price range. I'd wager best performing as well but I can't verify that as I have not tried all the others.

That's a handsome 1911. Congratulations. I have been lusting after one for a while. I'm trying to convince my wife to buy me one for my birthday. Every time I mention it She mentions a puppy....so it may not go so well.

H.m.B.;

Here's another thing to consider. Let's say in four months your LGS actually obtains the original gun you ordered & is willing to sell it for the price agreed upon. You didn't cancel did you? In that case you now have the opportunity to own a second one, which leaves several options open.

As an NIB trade, particularly if the market stays up, you will make a better trade with the cheaper gun. If the market goes down, you still have that one-fifty cushion. I don't see how you can get hurt looking at it as an investment.

Then there's just simply owning a second example of a gun you obviously like. No harm, no foul, & it's also obvious that you don't have any side issues from the wife about just going ahead & buying a gun. Having that second example in the safe also allows you to perhaps get creative with gun #1. And that can be it's own excuse to go ahead & do it. Perhaps presenting her with her half of a his-and-her's pair could pay dividends?

And the list goes on.

In these dry times it seems to me under $800 for a ss 1911 is a sweet deal, you were smart to drop the hammer on that one.:)

I had one of those buggers follow me home about 2 years ago. He eats a lot more than I thought he would...but nothing but the best for man's best friend. Haha!

Great gun. I've got 1000 rounds threw mine, and I couldn't be happier.

Congrats! To have now for a little more $$$ is better than to not have at all, for who knows how long.......

Now git out there and make some little holes and bring us a range report! And the target!

Please.

Any more in that litter that you left behind, wandering around looking for a good home?:)
My wife says if I keep my room clean and clean up behind it that I can have one.

Well I'll be damned if the same exact thing didn't happen to me. Random GM stop ended with a Ruger SR1911 following me home. Set of VZ slants, and she's all mine.

Actually just benched/broke her in properly last night. 150 rounds of 200 gr. SWC over 5 gr. Bullseye. and a few 4.5 grain loads, and a few 4 grain loads just for kicks.

No malfunctions, and she printed nice little one hole groups if I could keep it together.

Good for you :D

Good deal....if you can get a stainless 1911 under MSRP these days- you're doing good!
:D

Now they have the commander style. Looks like mine will be getting a little brother.

Very nice looking 1911 and reasonably priced and the added bonus of being a Ruger. I've learned that when buying scarce items that one must act fast especially when it come to guns. Its happened too many times in the past were I go home to think on it and come back the next day to purchase and its gone...gone...gone. Good job and enjoy

H.m.B.

If you found it and can afford it, then you were meant to have it. Congrats on getting what the gun you wanted.

Looking forward to your range report.

Nice wife. Mine would have given me the stink eye the second I picked it up.
