Baby Eagle .40 to 10mm conversion

With both the Para Ordnance and the Mauser M2, the .40S&W magazines are just .45ACP magazines with plastic inserts and the feed lips pressed a little closer together.

So it seems that a .40S&W pistol, built on a platform designed for .45ACP is generally an easy conversion to 10mm, but this is not so with a .40S&W built on a platform designed for 9mm.

But what about a .40 built on a platform designed for a .40?

Good question.

I don't know of any, do you? (A couple of the SIG P series have larger-framed models for their .40s, but I don't think they're large enough to accomodate a 10mm or .45 magazine.)

The Steyr M series was designed around .40S&W. I just checked an M .40 magazine for fit with a 10mm round. No dice. It doesn't fit.

Yeah, I already nixed the idea of a Steyr in 10mm ... I have both an M40 and an S40 and frankly if I could convert my S40 to 10mm I'd do it (its my EDC pistol).

How often is this conversion actually done? I've wanted to convert a KelTec sub2000 in .40 to 10mm... although I don't know if the slide would travel back far enough (it should, it has like a 3 1/2" travel), if the grip was large enough for the glock 10mm mags or if that barrell could even take the pressure. A small tac/utility rifle in 10mm would be really nice! You'd have to machine the chamber a little and maybe open the ejection port a little...

Converting my baby glock 27 to 10mm would be nice too... but I think there's a reason the "subcompact" glocks in 45 and 10mm aaren't baby glocks...

How much longer is the 10mm than the .40 anywys? just a few mm, right?

I don't think you've paid attaention to the detail of the comments, thus far.

The Sub2000 is a 9mm-based gun that was later upgraded to .40. The chances of converting it to anything but a .357 SIG-shooting gun, are slim and none. The frame, the magazine size, and its basic blow-back design of the gun, all work against a 10mm conversion. (Great gun in 9mm and .40 though.)

Some of the same issues are there with the Glock 27. The frame isn't large enough. (Compare the grip on a 10mm Glock to your 27; just hold them to appreciate how much bigger the 10mm gun is than the smaller-caliber version.)
