...and I'm not talking about the flying kind :p

I just got a new (to me) Baby Eagle Compact Polymer .40. The previous owner said it only had 25 rds through it, and I think I found out why he was so eager to sell it.

I'm having trouble feeding rounds from the mag. When I pull the slide back, the cartridge goes about halfway out of the mag lips and rests on the feed ramp, but the slide stays back. If I give the rear of the slide a little bump it will feed completely and the slide closes fully. Doesn't matter if I have 10 rounds or 1, it still does it. Does it when firing and manually chambering. It also doesn't matter what mag I use. It happens with the two mags that came with it, and also with the mag from my fullsize Baby Eagle (which has always fed fine).

If anyone can point me to a possible culprit I'd appreciate it. Otherwise it's going back to Magnum Research.

I know it may seem obvious, but could the pistol benifit from a bit of a polish on the feedramp (although admittedly it would have to be seriously rough or misshapen to stop rounds to that extent). Also, what sort of projie are you using? Mabey even a heavier recoil spring? Just throwing stuff out there...

The feedramp seems pretty smooth to me. I've tried Speer Lawman, CCI Blazer, and WWB. I was thinking recoil spring, but I don't think anyone makes aftermarket accessories for the Baby Eagle, at least that I can find.

I was looking at it last night, and it looks like when the hammer gets cocked back, it slightly pushes on the bottom of the slide (not sure what the exact name is, but whatever passes over the hammer). I can pull down the hammer the rest of the way with my thumb and it fully returns to battery. I think that may be the problem, but there was one instance where that didn't work and I had to still bump it.

What color is the follower in the magazine?
IMI had some feed issues due to incorrect geometry of the magazine follower.
If the follower is black plastic you need to send the magazine/s back to Magnum Research and they will exchange them for red follower magazines and this should correct any feed issues you are having with the pistol.HTH

I have the red followers.

I just ordered some new recoil springs from MagRes, so I'll cross my fingers and hope they do the trick. Thanks for the replies!
