We've been working in Scout camps again, now two weeks in. I don't have many pix so far because my official photographer (my 89yo dad) is recovering from a recent fall and can't be with us in camp. But, here's what I do have-

At Camp Bud Schiele- Ord Sgt Boolba aka "Teddy" in period USMC uniform is on the left working with a Scout on marksmanship. I'm on the right in the balmoral. Just after this pic was taken, the Scout with Teddy scored a direct hit with a Civil War musket (Zouave) on a squeeky toy.

At Camp Raven Knob- Scottish contingent at the end of session campfire ceremony. Scout on the left has aged out of Scouting but is working with us as an apprentice instructor. I'm in the middle and the gentleman on the right is a Scoutmaster who dropped by for the fun. At this campfire, we dress up and shamelessly promote black powder muzzleloading fun to the entire camp.

Well I got a couple from yesterday at Camp Raven Knob. Nothing like burning the holy black to send lead downrange on July 4!

And before anybody asks, we used a timer. Most of the kids were from Miami and a couple from eastern NC. Camp Raven Knob is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in NC.

Have to eat yer peas before dessert. Here the kids are being briefed on the difference between minies and round balls. We've just finished shooting round balls and the minies are the yellow cartridges on the table. Kids love them far more than round ball.

And the instructor "crew". LtoR- Flintlock Bob, Ricky, me, and "Teddy". Bob is holding a Fusil de Chasse he built and it's a blast to shoot. Ricky is holding a left hand Thompson Center. I've got a 2 band Enfield. Teddy is holding an original 1842 Macon that saw service in the Civil War and in his holster is an original Colt from the Civil War. We bring a wide range of stuff for the kids to look at, handle and learn from while having fun.

That is so cool for those scouts!!!! It opens a door to a whole new world for them. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Outstanding job, but some BSA administrator or lawyer is going to get their panties in a twist that a handgun was present at a Scout activity.

Not really. Some camps even have a version of "Cowboy Action" with SASS type stuff where they shoot steel targets with a lever action, a single action revolver and a shotgun. They even have a corny script to go with it. Venture Scouts are allowed to shoot high power arms including handguns.
