My problem with that type of thread is that it generally seems to deteriorate quickly. I also realize that I don't have to read the thread, but like any other rubber necker on the highway I just have to look at the crash;) I am actually an "old" member who moved several years ago, forgot his screen name and password, and just recently signed up again. What I like about THR is the civility and focus on guns. I don't want to lose that.
Hey, well then I'll say 'welcome back' instead. :)

I hear your concerns and respect them.

Being a relative newby, my experience here has been the following:

* In my relatively short time here, I've seen very few threads - gun related, legal/political, SHTF/TEOTWAWKI or other - that have "deteriorated". (I think I know exactly what you mean by that; not just wander off topic, but deteriorate intellectually, morally, ethically, etc.) I've lost interest in a some, but there have been few I'd describe as 'deterioration'. YMMV, of course; beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

* My strong sense - based in trust of the mods, who clearly intend to preserve the mission statement of THR and its intellectual & ethical integrity - is that: 1) the focus WILL remain on guns (the primary mission, which is what brought me here and keeps me here), and 2) civility will prevail (which has been a major reason I stayed on this wonderful forum, and why I refused to join others that I visited on the road to finding this one).

Anyway, yeah, I hear you, and agree.

Welcome back.

I have noticed that the moderators are pretty active here and I like that. My experience with threads wandering off into the weeds has been on another sight, not this one. Real SHTF situations I would like to hear about and discuss but on the other sight there were way too many posts about "what ifs" that went south in a hurry. It just occurred to me that this thread has remained civil and on topic all the way to the second page so I may be wrong about this. (an internet first, someone admits that he does not have all the answers and may have been wrong!)

I wouldn't consider you a newbie either, for all I know you grew up in Alaska toting a gun since you were 5, and your posts are thoughful.
