Took my Colt HBAR to the range today with my handloads. Some 69 grain SMK and 75 grain HPBT.

These usually shoot really good in my rifle, but not today. Could not get the 69 grain SMK to group, and the 75 grain was larger than usual.
Could this have been because of the extreme humidity? I did not chrony them today, and I was shooting at 100 yards with irons.

I know that my loads were good. I was sitting next to a person I see at the range from time to time, and he had his 24" bull barrel AR with an ACOG. I shot a group with my 75 grains out of his rifle, and they were all in a black inch square. Then I shot the 69 grain SMK out of his rifle, and they were .25" group.

I know the rounds were good and repeatable. I just don't get why my gun went haywire.

Maybe it was me and the irons having a hard time.

I don't know what it was. My typical 1" or less AR was not in the groove today. I cleaned it really good before I put it away last time I shot.

I wasn't using a scope. Never do with my AR. Maybe my eyes were bad today. I was having a hard time seeing the front post. My breathing was rushed, and I could see my pulse a lot more than usual today.

I wear glasses, and rarely shoot with my contacts (can't stand the way they feel on my eyes), but I might have to start using the contacts more now.

I don't think it was the fault of the gun to be honest. Maybe the scale or the humidity was the issue. We'll try again next week.

Had problems seeing the front post? Sounds like you were chasing the bull this day, got frustrated and got what you expected. When it comes time to shoot for scores I cannot seem to keep it together. :banghead: For eight years I can put ten rounds, five in each magazine, standing to sitting, in > 45 seconds in an area the size of a silver dollar. Slow fire I cover the target because I have time to think. That is why I have never competed in the civilian arena.

Something to look at...

If you have a A1/A2 flash hider, pull it and look for carbon buildup inside the flash hider itself. It'll look like someone wedged a black carbon wafer with a .22 hole in the center in there. If it does, soak it in Hoppes overnight and clean it out with a toothbrush. Sometimes if the buildup is really bad it'll affect accuracy as it can tip the bullet.
