Man oh Man am I pissed.
A lot of you have read my thread on my Wilson 1911 that I had to send back in early July the day after I bought it.... I'm sure I'll get that gun back fine, but in the mean time I just bought a real POS!

A new Taurus PT145 Pro ( 3rd Generation )- brand new from Sportsmans Warehouse.
Won't feed right - jamming up. I bought the gun, stripped it and oil/lubed it.
Went to the range and the first few magazines went fine - but then it started jamming about every 4th round. Same problem - not feeding all the way, getting stuck during the auto chambering process.

They say all they can do is send it to the factory... Well the heck with that! I refuse to accept defective merchandise! I'm ganna lose my mind with them in the morning and demand a full refund!

On a bright note I have bought a great XD this year, and a great S&W 629. My old man also gave me his WW2 Colt.... So over all I'm doin ok - but the last two sure have got me MAD!

Keep in mind that I dont know you experiance with guns....just suggestions..
I have the same gun and I love it I have only had 2 failures and i believe them to be ammo probs....Other than that I have had good luck with mine. I have put about 200 rds down range so far.
Could your problem be due to....

limp wristing....very possible if your not used to such a small gun

Ammo....i was using Blazer Brass, have had no probs with it in my Kimber

your grip on the gun....if you dont have a secure and PROPER
grip it can cause problems

Thanks for the reply.
Ya - I have a good proper grip on it - but the ammo may be factor.
I may try something a little more costly just to see what happens - But man am I frosted : )

Unfortunately modern management "science" says ~5% defect rate is OK as its cheaper to let the customer do the final QA/QC checks and fix them afterwards instead of spending the money up front to do it at the factory.

OTOH, with guns, if they tested them enough to be sure they were reliable, we'd all be buying used guns as new :)

Edit: another issue is with autoloaders probably 90+% of all problems are really mag problems. I suspect the factory test fires with a batch of known good mags and virgin untested mags are shipped with the gun after ot passes test fire. There are exceptions, my Taurus PT-100 had mags that clearly were test fired -- could see powder residue on the followers, gun was 100% out of the box too.

Dude, that does suck. With the Wilson I am surprised and would be very angry with them for sending out a non-working 1911. You expect more from a company when they are custom builders of high end hardware like that. What are you paying $2k+ for if you can't trust it will run 100% out of the box?

As for the Taurus... I've seen that happen WAY too many times. Do a search for threads about dealing with Taurus customer service on repairs... OMG, NIGHTMARE!

Unfortunately this happens all too often with Taurus' customer service.

If the gun won't run right, I would talk to your dealer and try to exchange it.

I agree completely. Many problems I've seen could be cured by using another magazine. But I've also seen plenty of Taurus handguns fail with every magazine you put in them... I've also seen some 1911's do the same. Usually these pistols are slightly out of spec, either the chambers are out of spec (common Kimber problem), the extractor is out of whack, or the breech faces are slightly out of spec.

If you must deal with Taurus, talk to a guy by the name of Frank.
I read where another person was having problems getting his gun back (just took forever) and he finally talked to this guy and he got on the ball and got it done for him quickly.
Good Luck....I like taurus guns but I hope I never have to deal with the factory because if heard of how long it can take them.

Had the exact same problem with mine. Traded it in a couple of months latter. I really loved shooting it, it was an accurate piece. However, clearing misfeeds isn't what I want to do with my defensive handgun.

I guess I'm the only person in the world who is happy with Taurus customer service. I broke a screw that holds the rear sight on the weapon (PT145 3rd gen da only w/rails) when trying to install some Trijicon sights I bought on line. I took it to my smith and he said he didn't have a tap that size and to call Taurus. I called and they said send it in. I did and ten days later it came back with the new Trijicons installed and "no charge".

If your shooting blazer you may want to try winchester. Lightly polish the feed ramp and hopefully that will help. I never had a problem with my PT-145....but after hearing about everyone elses problems with the CS department and then having an issue with them myself I decided to sell my PT-145 and stay away from Taurus. I buy 5 or 6 guns a year and there are too many great companies that aren't rude to customers.....I'd rather give them my money.

Sportsmans Warehouse will not refund your money. They have an "all gun sales final" policy. They will not buy it back for a lesser price or take it as a trade-in either.

Cabela's on the other hand...100% customer satisfaction guaranteed.

My cousin bought a PT145 MilPro less than a year ago. 3rd mag through it, jammed up, could not extract round, not a single thing on the gun would move. He took it to his GS and he could not open the action either. Taurus said lock it with the key and send it in. They sent it back to him over a month later, without any explaination of what was the matter with it. He called them for an explaination and they asked if it seemed to be working now, and if it was then he should be fine with that. Nice huh?

Is Taurus really a good value if they don't work when you need it to?

I've said it many times, I won't touch Taurus with a 10 foot poll. The only Taurus I would even consider buying is a PT92/99 and that's only because they were built using Beretta tooling and technology. All the homebrew designs leave much to be desired in terms of overall design and quality.

Well, I own Colt, S&W, Ruger, Springfield, Kel Tek...but of all, my favorite shooter is the 22 oz. 2nd Generation, DAO Taurus PT145 millennium 10 + 1 .45 ACP. Light weight, dependable little pocket cannon. Funny, I never have bad luck with weapons...not sure I can afford to have bad luck with weapons either. Research...practice and get the right ammo for the right weapon...they are all different.

I bought a SS 3rd gen. 9mm millennium pro for the wife and she loves it. After around 400 rounds so far w/o a hiccup I have to admit I'm kind of taking to it too. If only my dept. would allow us to carry weapons w/ safeties off duty I'd probably pick one up for myself.

Side note- I picked hers up at Sportsmans Warehouse a few months ago for $299.99, but when we went in there last week the price went up to $329.99. We also went to the gun show that same day and the cheapest price there was $349.99. If any of you guys are thinking about getting one I'd do it soon because it looks as if the prices are going to continue to rise.

Got my money back

Thanks friends for all of your replies. This forum has been a great help and my main source for research....

Well... I got my money back. They told me at first that it was their policy that they have to send it to Taurus & have it serviced, and then some dip-sh!# tried to tell me it was against the law to take the gun back.

The Manager Brandon listened to my side of the story and decided to give me a refund - he is a good guy and a smart man, because he knows that over the next six months I'll spend a small fortune with them....

I simply told them that I will not accept defective merchandise from ANYONE. That would be allowing my self to be ripped off. I refuse to buy a gun & be told that ( "ya sure it's broke - but it's your problem and you'll have to send it in for service" - within the first 24 hours of owning it.
I also told them that I own a business and I stand behind everything I sell, & I expect the same from Sportsman’s....

Like I said - the Mgr was good enough to be fair.

In the case of my Wilson - I will give their service a try, because I know that it is a quality weapon that just needed an extractor adjustment. Not the same in the case of Taurus - I'll never risk my money on another one.
