I believe the limp-wristing business has been overstated. HOWEVER, I learned today that the issue is alive and well in my PT145. I have had great success with my PT145 while my friend has had terrible trouble with his - which is strange because we bought them together and they're consecutively numbered.

Today I learned the issue is limp-wristing. Both this friend and my father had malfunctions with my PT145 today while I continued to see good functioning. Once I had them hold the gun with rigid wrist, they did fine.

Anyone else have this experience?

No, from the first shot, my PT145 has been flawless. I have not heard of any 'limp wristing' issue specifically attributed to this pistol. That is a phenomenon that is generic with inexperienced semi-auto shooters, your friend may wish to look at his/her technique.

My "issue" with <limp-wristing> is that it is too broadly applied and used as an excuse for malfunctions.

Yeah, interesting that I encountered what I did yesterday. I'm interested in following up with it. Come to think of it, same friend had a failure with some other pistol last time we were at the range together. He may need to work on his technique.

What is the length of the barrel on the PT145?

I ask because I've owned (literally) dozens of handguns over the last 10 years. I've only had two that I had consistent problems with: a Kimber Ultra carry, and a Glock G36. Both are .45's with 3 inch barrels. I have to think that's beyond a coincidence.

If I really focused and squeezed the crap out of the G36, it would fire reliably, but the grip required to fire it reliably was way beyond any other gun I own (or have owned). Off-hand shooting was especially an issue, and any carry gun I own I need to be able to shoot it reliably with either hand.

Since the problem has been a 3" barrel/45 acp. combo for me, I tend to think it has something to do with the sensitivity of the cycling -- kicking out a fat .45 round in such a short stroke, maybe? At any rate, I don't own either of them anymore.

I just facepalm'D to the max.
:)

But, since I'm not going to convince you of anything, I'll just tell you not to worry.

PT145 has a 3 and 1/4 inch barrel.

Can it be a factor? Sure.

Is it over-used as a way to excuse crappy guns that don't function properly? Yep, all the time.

Limp wristing is the most overused excuse of all time in my opinion.

If you actually hold a gun so weakly that this happens, you might as well either get training or quit shooting forever.
