Bad shoulders

Try a PAST recoil pad. Those seem to help along with a good recoil pad made by limbsaver or Pachmayer.

If you are trying to deer hunt and you have access to a 223 that may help if 223 is legal for deer where you live. Or you could look at a 243 and still put a good recoil pad on the rifle and use the PAST recoil pad.

A suppressor for the 270WSM might also help you reduce recoil and also noise.

When the wife tore up her shoulder she was worried about missing hunting season that year. Built her an AR platform hunting rifle in 6.8 rem. Recoil was just a bit more that .223 but not that much. Turned out to be a good hunting round for us.

Mr Woody, One of the things I had thought of is the 6.8 being .277 same as my 270WSM, and me being a reloader I could buy the 110grain bullets intended for the 6.8 and download the 270WSM to maybe 2700-2900fps. Should be pretty mild recoil and would save me buying a new rifle. The big question might be would it be accurate, I know how to find out.

I have no shoulder problems at 72.But I was going to recommend a 9 lb .243.My favorite deer rifle is an older Model 70.With scope about 10 lbs.Negligible recoil.I sometimes shoot 40 rounds at the range with no discomfort. Also, the weight reduces the wobble on offhand shots.A Limbsaver recoil pad would reduce the recoil even more.
