I see a site called JLD enterprises thru something called Cruffers.inc. offers some Argentine .45s, these Ballesters and Sigmas. I heard that Sigmas are pretty much o.k. guns, interchange with 1911s. My two questions, and thanks in advance for any input; Has anyone ever bought from the aforementioned vendors, and does anyone have a ballester molina? How are they?

Nothing wrong with the Ballester Molina, but that site hasn't been updated in close to a decade. I have no idea who's paying the hosting fees, but needless to say, those items aren't available anymore (at least not from that company, and not for those prices).

As a matter of fact, I remember seeing that ad and wanting to buy and that still being the situation (ad out of date, prices not valid) back when I first got my C&R in 2004 ;).

I believe the "Sigma" you are referring to should actually be the Sistema, which is a Colt gun with different roll marks.

Molinas are good too, just not a true 1911. You may have difficulty finding parts for them if something should break.

Sources for both guns have dried up long ago. I have a feeling you will find that out.

The Argentine military settled on the COlt 1911 pistol as their standard sidearm for their police and military. They bought Colt tooling and licensed to manufacture a certain number of Colts in Argentina. These are the "Sistema" Colts. Argentine military decided they wanted more guns but didn't want to pay Colt for more licensing, so they went to an automotive parts company called HAFDASA to ask their designers to make a new gun that would use Colt magazines and barrels to keep spare parts simple. They married the Colt design with a Spanish Star and came up with a 1911-looking pistol with a pivoting trigger like a Star, which was orginally the Ballester-Rigaud, later Ballester-Molina, named after the designers and engineers.
Handles like a 1911, but even the grips are different to avoid patent infringement.

The Sistemas and Ballesters are long gone.

Very true. The Cruffler site was last updared in 2002.

Those 1927s are fantastic guns, but they're not cheap any more. So it goes with surplus.

Thank you, my friends, for all the information. It looked too good to be true, and I will not waste my time.

OLympus, thanks for the correction. At least I did not mess up and say something cheezy like smegma instead of sigma. Really. I only have one .45 all the people at the range say it's a rifle. Maybe it's time to buy a rock island or something. Thanks for the input.

browns fan: I don't have to watch out for much of anything,'cept hurricanes.
