Banned from Glocktalk???

hello all, just a question about forum stuff. Tried to register at glocktalk since i just added a glock 20 to my collection. Mostly have 1911's in various makes, so looked into glocktalk to decrease my level of ignorance on non 1911 types. As soon as i tapped the register button, got the response that my IP address is banned. How can that be, never posted there and only just registered here and at 1911 forum.com. Responded to the administrator and never received a response. What gives???? Or is glocktalk a bunch of E-snobs???

It depends on your ISP. It's quite possible that the forum was getting viruses or massive spam amongst the members from your ISP, itself. I ran into that on MIRC, an internet chat program. You might be better off PM'ing a moderator. Admins are generally quite busy.

Lots of folks have had this happend to them on GT, myself included. I emailed several people with zippy response from them and gave up.

If they have banned Verizon (BellAtlantic prior) as an ISP, they're absolutely foolish bordering on silly.

I emailed the administrators again, not too worried. sounds like the site is not all together anyway. Probably banned all roadrunner ISPs as well. At least I am here and at a couple others.

Everybody and his brother has been banned from GT (including yours truly), so don't be surprised that you're feeling the after-effects of manical banning.

Nah, it's more likely that Eric banned entire ISPs, because banning individuals as frequently as swatting flies got to be too much work.

The word "courtesy" from a GT moderator usually only proceeds the words "reach-around".

I used to have an account there up until mid last year. Not sure exactly what happened, but I wasn't online for a few months, tried to log in and got the "ISP banned" thing as well. I've lurked there since without an account. And from what I can tell, I'm DEFINATLY not missing out on anything.

Believe me, it can be. I'm bitter for a reason, and being banned is only a small portion of that reason.

Thanks my THR brethren, and sistren (is that right...but PC I suppose). Feel better now. Thought it was just me. Yes the explanation of a equipment problems and a pay site says it all at GT. I like it here just fine, and at 10mmtalk.com. 1911forum is nice as well. Appreciate the prompt replies!

i do go on glock talk from time to time, but you are right , there are a BUNCH ex chairbornes and other poser patrol types over there, that think they are way too hard and cool for the rest of us.

This is why I appreciate THR. Folks can disagree but yet present any opinion that holds even a modicum of validity. Some may say it's over-moderated, but not me.

Forums have the ability to ban whole ip's. This is one way of dealing with people who continually re-register.

The downside is that it excludes other people.

As far as whether or not Glocktalk is a good forum or not, if you like it, post there. If not, find another forum.
