Banning semi-autos and magazines via taxation

If somebody won't follow
the agreed upon rules of a civilized
society, they need to be confined
somewhere where they can't
victimize innocent people.
This works only if the number of criminals is within manageable limits. Otherwise, the cost of jailing them becomes prohibitive.

We have long since passed that point. Our only recourse, now, is to explore strategies that would make the criminal life less attractive.

The US already has a higher percentage of it's population in prison than does any other country on earth. Do you really think that incarcerating even more would make a difference?
The problem is not the number of people incarcerated. It's incarcerating them for the right reasons. And rehabilitating the ones that can be rehabilitated.

There's no reason that we have to leave killers on the street to make room for people in jail for drugs, child support, or traffic tickets.

This depends on how you define "the left." I'm old enough to think of the left mainly in terms of economic issues. Cultural issues, like guns, are another dimension entirely.

People that want to ban guns are a distinct minority in this country, even among the traditional left. The fact that they've been able to hijack the Democratic Party, on this issue, can be the subject for a very complex discussion. Just remember that the Democratic Party is a coalition of disparate interests.

Left-wing populism (as it existed, say, in FDR's time) has actually migrated over to the Republican Party.

Wow.

And I'm old enough to realize that "economic issues" were and are fundamental tools in creating an environment favorable to establishing a totalitarian society.

But, politics... me go now.

“He that is born to be a man,” says Wieland, in his “Peregrinus Proteus,” “neither should nor can be anything nobler, greater, or better than a man.”
The fact is, that in efforts to soar above our nature, we invariably fall below it. Your reformist demigods are merely devils turned inside out.
Really "soaring above one's nature" would mean improving one's OWN character, not bossing around other people.

Ahhh yes, the eViL ''ghost guns'' in post #42

Did U guys see, the similar eViL ''ghost ammo''? Homemade ammo has thusfar escaped the radar...
