Banning semi-autos and magazines via taxation

Sums it up.

These politicians are just establishing their Anti bonafides and the proposed legislation is just to help them in their fundraising.

Things like this are worth taking note of, but not of making much of beyond noting the supporters of such absurdity.

The leftists see an inevitable win for themselves. Whatever they can do to disenfranchise conservatives, they will set about doing.

Witness Europe. Europeans, for the most part, have allowed themselves to be disarmed. American leftists look to Europe and say among themselves, "We too can 'educate'/propagandize Americans -- especially their children -- into handing-over power to centralized government. We can win this. It simply will take a few more years. Look at the success of our American university professors in making younger people anti-American!"

Not necessary to takie all 3 branches, there's always wheelin' dealin' Mitch to....''assist.'' I remembe....

.... oops sorry, I kinda froze up there for 30 seconds or so....hmm...

Too true. RINO's and other sell-outs are the worst of enemies.

I'm not a member of the Christian religion; however, it is so obvious that the worst enemies of Christianity are the monsters who call themselves "Christians".

Conservatives & 2nd Amendment supporters have as their worst enemies those who are willing to compromise with those who feign friendship. Were the German Jewish people able to compromise with those who wanted them to be annihilated? Outrageous question, right?! Actually no; many imagined the brown shirts to be, in their heart of hearts, civilized people. Inevitably and way too late, it was revealed that they were monsters wearing smiles.

Boris: Oh! WOW! Comrade Vladmiyr, IT PASSED!!

Vlad: Seriously?! I'm happy, but. How it that happen?

Boris: We lulled them to sleep💤, they thought it was just another ...silly...''oh that won't pass'' bill📜!!

Always, always, ALWAYS believe and plan as if the enemies of your freedoms are 💯 % capable of doing worse then everything they are saying.

Adults, plan accordingly.

The antis have stepped on The Constitution by declaring emergencies. Numerous examples in recent years. They'll probably do it again. Hopefully this isn't too political for this political thread?

OK, instead of Left vs. Right, we could say pro-centralized government vs. Constitutional small government.
You're superimposing the wrong template on this.

We have to look at the sociology of the antigun movement. The core (the foot soldiers, if you will) is what I would call, for the sake of brevity, "suburban soccer moms." These people are primarily motivated by the fear that their children will be caught up in shootings. They know almost nothing about guns, and, except for this one issue, they're mostly apolitical.

The leadership of the antigunners is mostly made up of grifters who make their living doing this. There are a few fat cats at the top, like Bloomberg, who are motivated by a misplaced idealism, thinking they can make the world a perfect place.

The grifters and the fat cats have managed to form an alliance with the Democratic Party, but that doesn't mean that all Democrats are antigun.

Ideas of generalized authoritarianism, etc., have nothing to do with this.

Further, it is a truism that when a law becomes too burdensome and overreaching it ultimately cancels itself. We've just seen a small example with the ongoing fight over pistol braces.............what was the guesstimated compliance percentage.....less than ten if I recall data I've seen.

Compliance is truly a 'bully' word!

This. Congress has the power to tax, but it cannot tax an explicit constitutional right, nor the lawful exercise of it, out of existence.
That's right, but we're still waiting for the Supreme Court to explicitly rule that AW's and hi-cap magazines are covered by the 2nd Amendment. The SC is trending that way, but it's dragging its feet. In the meantime the antigunners are using the SC silence to push all sorts of infringing legislation.

Untill Congress passes laws that effect criminals, all it will be is disarming the good citizens and preventing them from defending themselfs.

Anyone who is anti 2nd A is pro criminal and anti American, and just as much as a criminal enabler as any drug dealer.

Perhaps Congrees people who try to pass Unconstitutional Laws should be jailed for the results of that law, should it be found illegal/unconstituional .

Strictly speaking, guns are not a right-left issue. Congressman Beyer, for example, is the owner of a Volvo dealership. Bloomberg, as we know, is a multi-billionaire. These people are not communists. (The true communists, on the other hand, like their guns.)

Their antigun crusade is something that they truly believe is for the good of society. The fact that it wouldn't work seems to have escaped them.
It is an issue of the left vs the right.

When Beto said hell yeah I want to take your AR15, every leftist at the debate (meaning the entire room) cheered like he was the Beatles.

Stop pretending the left isn't wholly behind total gun control

Stop pretending the left isn't wholly behind total gun control
This depends on how you define "the left." I'm old enough to think of the left mainly in terms of economic issues. Cultural issues, like guns, are another dimension entirely.

People that want to ban guns are a distinct minority in this country, even among the traditional left. The fact that they've been able to hijack the Democratic Party, on this issue, can be the subject for a very complex discussion. Just remember that the Democratic Party is a coalition of disparate interests.

Left-wing populism (as it existed, say, in FDR's time) has actually migrated over to the Republican Party.

Well stated Alexander..............I grew up in that politically separate part of Va.......called West by God........and precisely what you describe is what occurred and is still happening there. Frankly I'm more than a little surprised that your adjacent counties didn't take them up on the suggestion of 'migrating' west!

CCRKBA, for anyone who doesn't know, is the sister organization of the SAF. Here is their statement today on this proposal, from

CCRKBA BLISTERS HOUSE Democrats’ PROPOSED 1000 PERCENT GUN TAX

Aug 9, 2023 | 0 comments

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today ripped a group of House Democrats led by Virginia Congressman Don Beyer for resurrecting a 2022 proposal to place a 1,000-percent excise tax on the sale of so-called “assault weapons” and” high-capacity magazines.”

“This proposal shows how outrageous some Capitol Hill Democrats have become in their efforts to restrict Second Amendment rights,” said CCRKBA Managing Director Andrew Gottlieb. “The fact that the idea failed last year, when it had a few more sponsors and when Beyer’s party was in the majority, shows just how inane most of his colleagues thought the proposal was.”

The proposed measure, H.R. 5135, was announced last week but there is still no language available on the House website. The only available text says the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 would be amended to impose the tax “and for other purposes,” whatever that might be.
“Congressman Beyer has been very candid about this proposal from the start,” Gottlieb said. “He acknowledged the intent is to essentially discourage people from purchasing modern semi-automatic rifles by literally pricing them out of the market.”

He suggested Beyer and his colleagues resurrected the scheme to appeal to the gun control extremists who now comprise the party’s base. The fact his proposal failed the first time should provide a strong signal how it will fare this time around, with a Republican majority.
“Even if this exorbitant tax were to somehow be approved,” Gottlieb said, “it is unlikely to survive a court challenge. The notion that government can literally tax a constitutional right into extinction is so astonishing that it suggests the authors have little grasp of the Republic as envisioned by the Founders, and absolutely no respect for the Constitution and its Bill of Rights.”

Europe and the Middle East have a plague of an underground market in "Carlos" -- cheap underground clones of the Karl Gustav M1945 submachinegun which was a Swedish refinement of the British Sten.
Middle East and India have an underground market in AK22s - sort of AK look alikes build in underground factories ranging from garage size to commercial
buildings. [insert below]

So these Democrats want to do to guns ("assault weapons") what previous crusaders did to alcohol ("demon rum"), marijuana ("reefer madness"), erotica ("menace of the devianrs") and create a vast black market supporting abusers and supported by previously law abiding cirizens. And they think that's a good thing?

Prohibitionists don't understand human nature; therefore, their reforms just make bad situations worse..

As the Dries fought vigorously in the mid-1960s to defend the 1953 local option prohibition of alcohol, I discovered Edgar Allan Poe's Marginalia in high school.
Note # LXXXIX
“He that is born to be a man,” says Wieland, in his “Peregrinus Proteus,” “neither should nor can be anything nobler, greater, or better than a man.”
The fact is, that in efforts to soar above our nature, we invariably fall below it. Your reformist demigods are merely devils turned inside out.

This tax is no more constitutional than the poll tax for exactly the same reason. A Supreme Court taken over by idealist from those that support the constitution is the end...

Ahhh yes, the eViL ''ghost guns'' in post #42

Did U guys see, the similar eViL ''ghost ammo''? Homemade ammo has thusfar escaped the radar...

thusfar...

There's a good many people that need
to be confined either in the penal system
or in mental facilities that will not, or
can not obey the agreed upon rules of
a civilized society.
The US already has a higher percentage of it's population in prison than does any other country on earth. Do you really think that incarcerating even more would make a difference?

Once ya’ll have them get rid of unconstitutional taxes, let me know, I still have an M134 itch…

$200 in 1934 is worth $4,553.87 today

Yes
Yes I do. If somebody won't follow
the agreed upon rules of a civilized
society, they need to be confined
somewhere where they can't
victimize innocent people.
