I'm really into old style military weapons. I have an M1 Garand an M1 Carbine, and a Colt 1911A1. I'm looking to add to the list by finding myself an original (clone is fine) Browning Automatic Rifle and a Thompson sub-machine gun. My question is this: Do either of these rifles come in a civilian semi-automatic version? If so, how much do they cost? What are the proper names? Anyone have one for sale?

There are also people who make aftermarket 1921 style detachable stocks. For a reason unknown to me, the current semi auto Thompsons come with those odd looking stocks that are not readily detachable.

I had called Ohio Ord late last year to inquire about availability of the 1918s. The lady said that they would probably not be making any more until the end of 2006 as they are busy filling military orders. She said to call back in May, though, to get an updat and possibly put an order in for one. (Which I will do.)

For a brief moment, I took that to mean that the US military was buying BARs again.

Heh. That would be amusing. :)
