Which do you prefer:
-Military surplus bolts
-Semi-auto battle rifles (Garand, FAL, M1A, CETME,etc)
-Semi-auto civilian hunting rifles (BAR, Remington 7400)
-Semi-auto plinkers (M1 Carbine, SKS, AK, AR, .22lr and .22mag semis)
-Civilian bolt guns (Win 70, Rem 700, Browning A-bolt, CZ, Howa, etc)
-.22lr bolt guns
-Lever rifles
-.22lr lever rifles

Vote in the poll, or give a further explaination as you please.

Just curious here.

I voted Milsurp Bolt-Action

I guess I should start by pointing out I live in California so my choice of semi-auto battle rifles is limited (but I do like the Garand). I have no experience with lever-actions but also don't have anything against them.
I'm looking at civilian bolt-actions because of the scope-mounting possibilities, but they aren't my favorites.

Milsurps have varying degrees of historical significance and price-wise go from cheap-because-some-government-doesn't-want-them-anymore (surplus in its pure form) to rare collectible (expensive because some people just have to have it). I like them because I know just enough about history to care about the stories behind some of them and bolt-actions are great for short to medium range target shooting.

My favorite rifle type is whatever will hit what I think I'm aiming at. I actually like them all. I enjoy shooting my 10/22 as much as a .50 bolt. I have never fired a full auto anything so my opinion may change if I ever get the chance.

Well I have more bolt mil-surp,and lever action and everything else, but for me the most fun to shoot is my M1. I love it. I like to look at the others and shooting them is fun, but nothing like the M1.

Well, my favorite falls under your heading of "semi-auto plinkers," but I'd hardly consider my Armalite M-15 to be a plinker. :D If "only accurate rifles are interesting" then this is certainly my most interesting and favorite rifle. (Actually, it is my match rifle, but that's another story.)

I like a easy to carry, easy to hit something with kind of rifffle. For now that is my Mod. 99 Savage in .243.
I really want a AR or short bolt action in .308.
A lot of wants, not a lot of money:(

Military rifles; mostly the ones made in the town of Oberndorf, Germany.

I picked semi-auto battle rifles.
Certain ones can be configured to almost anything you want, even making a bolt-action .50BMG out of one ( I think...)  :D

That being said, I really like my Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Rem.Mag.!

As there's not an "All of the above" choice, that's a really tough question. Love a good tack driving bolt gun, rimfires are useful and fun guns that eveyone needs at least one or three examples of, and there's something about the military guns like the M1A...

But I went with Lever gun, simply because they do so many things so well. If I had to give up all my guns except one, the one I'd keep would be the Marlin '94 in 44.

Oh, sure.

How about another poll? Different topic, but the same style: "Which one of your children is your favorite?" Yes, I'm kidding.

I picked the SABR category (Garand fan), but I like 'em all. :D

another vote for lighter-weight civvie bolts. May not be as sexy-cool as a tricked out M4, but they seem to me the best balancing act of cost, weight, accuracy, oomph, and prettiness. Then again, no one's ever shot at me. :)

I went with SABRs myself, even though I don't own one at the moment (there IS a Garand and a FAL in my future). It was a really hard choice, as I also love milsurp bolts, civilian/hunting bolts, semi-auto plinkers, levers...and so on, and so on.

I wanted to vote for Levers and Bolts.

Love the WIn 94 & Savage 99
Love a nice bolt to. Remingtons, Kimbers, Coopers, even have a Win that I really like.

Nothing against an AR or M1A, I like them too.

Not into Milsurp.......yet.;)

I wouldnt consider AK's and AR's to be "plinkers" Maybe the 22's.

Come to think of it, couldnt you "plink" with any of the choices you have listed. Not trying to be rude but I've always considered the term plinker to apply to pellet guns and 22's. Maybe I just need some more coffee.

OOOOOOOOO........That's tuff; why do you ask these hard questions?
Kinda like do want a Million in cash or Guns:D
I had to go with My L1A1; but It's sooooo hard, I love my bolt guns:what:

All of the above plus more:

I also like single shot for hunting non-dangerous game and ease of cleaning.
Civilian bolt-action big whopper for dangerous game.
Milsurp bolt action for those rugged, tough times.
Semi-auto plinkers for, well, plinking.
and so on, and so on. :)

... all the action types have a place. My favorite rifle type is an accurate rifle. :)

OK, guys, I'm not sure why I put in the "semi-auto plinkers" section. I originally named it plinkers/target guns, but for some reason changed it. I also probably should have broken it up into two sections like I did for everything else (one for centerfire, one for .22lr). I apologize to all of you who had their ARs and AKs run to the closet crying over being described as plinkers:D . Seriously, no offense intended.

In answer to my own poll, my favorite are lever rifles. Fast, fun, and classic. Nothing like them.
