Wandering around in the Sierras...
I was looking thru Midway's shotgun shell lineup and noticed they had Wolf 00 and slugs for a very decent price... as well as Barnaul shells.

So I was thinking of picking up some Wolf buck & slugs for HD use and some Barnaul for practice/plinking...

I fire quite a bit of Barnaul and some occaisional Wolf thru my Mak so I know the 12ga ammo will probaly be stinky and dirty just like the centerfire ammo.

Just curious if anyone has any experience with either brands in 12ga???

You're right! The WOLF slugs do/did leave a dirty residue in the barrel compared to the Winchester or Remington which I've shot. Why is that?

did you notice a very distinct smell also?

I think it's the powder they use. I've noticed it more with the Barnaul and older Wolf. Not so much with the newer Wolf. Well the smell at least. The new Wolf is still very dirty...

Dirty is an understatement for Wolf residue. I still shoot it because of price. It just takes a little longer to clean.

AS long as it functions properly, why not use it for HD? I think your bigger mess will be the stains on the carpet, furniture, etc.

Wolf buckshot and slugs are made in Germany. Other Wolf shotshells are made in Spain. Wolf rifle and pistol ammo is made at Tula Cartridge Works in Russia.

I remember having seen the steel cased Barnaul 12 gauge ammuniton but I don't know where to get it. Any good online sources?
