Barrel chamber is messed up with my EAA Elite Match Pics

I have a EAA Witness Elite Match in 9mm. I love the gun, but I noticed the brass has lines in it when I first got it, but never really worried much about it. You can take something and scrape the inside of the chamber, and feel the machining ripples that is causing the lines in the brass.

I later noticed that the 9mm cartridge fits loose in the barrel. I have owned many autos (over 10), none have ever left marks like this on the brass. Also, none of my current 9mms are as loose.

Before I send it in, just wanting to verify I'm correct that this is wrong.

Also, does anyone have any camber specs I can check mine against with caliapers?

Looks bulged because I think it is. The chaimber is loose, so that would make the brass buldge I would think. But I'm no gunsmith.

Yeah, the brass is bulged. I'm trying to figure out what would do that to a 9mm chamber, and all I can think of is that someone might have been using old brass that split during firing or over pressured handloads.

I think you're best option at this point would be to see about getting a new barrel.

Witness match

I do not recall seeing this on my Witnesses but I have sure seen brass like that alot at the range , I do not believe it is unsafe just sloppy machining I would send the picture to EAA I am very interested to hear their response. Please PM me if you have future knowledge so I don't miss a post. I really do like thier guns but corners are cut to get so much gun for so little cash.
I was going to check with them about caliber conversions as I am up to 4 Witness plus a rimfire kit and still do not have a 40 S&W

I will keep you posted. As of now, they want me to send the gun in. I plan to ship it off next week.

I'd be sending at least the barrel to them. If those cases ARE bulged it's surprising that you didn't mention an extraction problem.

I have a Witness Limited in 38 Super. My fired cases are less than .001" larger (actually I get them at half a thousandth, or .0005" with digital caliper) in diameter than new unfired cases measure, meaning that the chamber is nice and tight. The brass is nickel plated so I'm not sure if it would show the sort of marks that yours does but the chamber looks as perfect as any I've ever seen and running a dental pick up the chamber walls gives me no feeling of ridges, hitches, or anything but smooth machined surface in there. I just checked it over.

That barrel is out of spec. I would send the barrel back to the manufacturer.

They asked I send the whole gun back. If it were a duty type gun I would just send the barrel back.

These guns are supposed to have a hand fitted barrel.

I will request one, or a whole new gun. It is a few months old, less than 200 rounds.

One mmore thing, when you put a round in the barrel, and shake the barrel, you can see and hear the bullet movement, and I thought Glocks had unsupported chambers.

You're sure that it's the 9mm barrel, right?

Not meaning to demean but you've got to admit that we've all seen or heard of plenty of simple mistakes.

OK. A 9mm cartridge is loose in a 38 Super chamber - not much loose, but it falls in too deep and has a wiggly feel if you put a finger on the base and try moving it. Also, the caliber mark on my barrel is so low in the ejection port that it could be missed.

So looking at your casings it could be called a light strike on the primer and that's what I'd get if I put a short cartridge into my chamber, headspacing on the mouth, (if the firing pin reached the primer at all). So maybe they've put a barrel into your gun that's mismarked or mis-chambered in the longer and slightly larger diameter caliber? See what I mean?

The only Witness I have is the limited in 38 as attached...

who knows, maybe it is, but mismarked. I will keep everyone posted. Plan to send it out tomorrow.

EAA has replaced the barrel and it is back on it's way after them having it 1 week.

I will let you know once it is in.

As an update. No issues. I got a new barrel, they did not charge me shipping back. I asked for an extra mag to help recoup my shipping and they sent it. Just have to be nice to folks I guess.
