Barret 50 M82 Want One soooo Bad

From a purely shooting standpoint, IMO, not a good platform. It was on my list at one time until a friend got a couple of them and allowed me to send a couple rounds down range. I've been on a high precision kick for the past few years and, unfortunately, the 82 didn't deliver. The gun itself is pretty nice, lower recoil than what you might expect (in my estimate, no worse than a 12 ga slug), the concussion wave is pretty stunning, and certainly fun. But, if you are looking for less than 1 MOA, look somewhere else. It would be an expensive plinker.

IMO (and also my friend's), it is likley a good investment in terms of cost and eventual bans.

As a policy I think it is foolish to buy things that you do not need and cannot afford.

I suppose if there was reason to believe a ban was imminent and you would kick your self for the rest of yout life if you didn't own one and you were willing to pay thousands more for it by taking out a loan then it might be worth it to you.

I would not ever finance one or a similar toy. Short of a house if I cannot afford it then I dont buy it.

If you enjoy it and can afford to finance it then enjoy yourself and have a good time.

I dont consider being able to make the payments as being able to afford it. While toaday you might be able to make those payments you dont own a crystal ball and there is no guarantee that you will be able to continue to do so, particualarly given the current financial climate.

You don't need other people's opinions on how you spend your money, for fun or otherwise

A loan isn't YOUR money its the bank's (or the loaning party's). It is your money that will pay off the interest however. True you dont need anyone elses advice but that is not to say heeding it may not be the prudent thing to do. The thousands upon thousands of forclosures that are out there right now are good evidence of that point.

I would adise that if you really want one you examine your current expenses, find where you can save, people are often shocked to learn how much money they spend on certain habits such as eating out, smoking, going to the bar, etc. Start saving what you can and when you have $8k saved up if you still want one get it. Also if you have an emergency in the mean time you wont be nearly as screwed. Rember 8K< 13K or whatever financing it will cost you in the end.

My dad always told me there are two kinds of people in the world. Those making interest and those paying it. I greatly prefer being in the first group. The beauty or horror of interest is it never stops working.

If I was going to Baghdad to fight the insurgents, and Uncle Sam was picking up the tab, the M82 would be a great choice.

Here in civilian-50bmg-land where I'd be spending my own money, I'd save up for an AR50. (truthfully, I've been drooling over an AR30 for a long time.)

What you should do with that money is to buy a top of the line BOHICA .50, then buy 1,000 rounds of ammo, then still have 2500 for optics and other things. Why get just a rifle when you can get the whole package for the same price?

Generally speaking, NEVER NEVER NEVER finance anything unless it will APPRECIATE in value at a higher rate than the interest on your loan.

Yes, people violate this with cars all the time, but it doesn't make any financial sense. Pay cash for things that maintain or go down in value. "But Daddy, I want it NOW!" I know I know. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to shop for a car loan online...:banghead:

One finanacial guy I used to listen to said if you can't afford to pay off a car with a 2 or 3 years loan, you can't afford it and shouldn't buy it. Not a bad way to look at things at all.

I don't like the idea of financing a rifle to that extent. I have put rifles on CC before, but it was a situation where I could pay if off quickly (most of the time). :) I don't like the idea of financing that kind of money though unless you think you can pay it off quickly.

Step 1: Sell all your possessions

Step B: Buy Gun + Ammo

Step Three: Don't beat yourself up, the g/f was going to leave you anyhow :scrutiny:

Step D: SBR the hell outta it

Step lol: Post lots of pics of your new post-apocalyptic zombie squirrel gun
