After this personal experience showed up on keepandbeararms.com, I emailed Bass Pro for confirmation. After a week, 3 email replies, and no answers, somebody in a position of a little authority called me about an hour ago. His name was Larry and after a nice 10+ minute conversation, here's what I got:

1. He said Bass pro sells ARs at some locations (I encouraged him to sell them at all of them, esp the new one in Alabama)

2. He was emphatic that they just don't get a lot of requests for them, to which I explained that not only do most interested customers NOT make a formal request, unless there is a comment card right there at the gun counter, even most ticked off customers won't say anything. I'm not sure he fully accepted these facts so if you live near a Bass Pro that doesn't carry ARs, please make a request, preferably using a suggestion box. These huge retailers sometimes like to play both sides of an issue. They'll say they don't carry something because "nobody requests it," and then provide either no mechanism for customers to request things, or provide a mechanism that gives no confidence that the customer is being LISTENED to.

Larry said over and over how much Bass Pro has done for shooting and the 2nd amendment and I said thank you as I explained the graveness of the war with the anti gunners and their "sporting purpose" sympathizers. I explained that because of this war, it actually is important to not let your huge gun store appear to be mostly catering to the "fudds." I specifically mentioned Big 5 as being one of the worst because they won't even carry handguns.

Who knows what will come of this, but I would like to know if the Bass Pro near you carries ARs. I don't live anywhere near one

Even if Bass Pro did carry AR's, I wouldnt buy one there. At the Grapevine, TX store, all of their guns, ammo, and hunting gear are overpriced. The only reasonably priced stuff in the whole store is the fishing tackle. Last time I checked, they wanted around $100 more for just about every gun they sold, compared to other places like Cabelas and Academy.

As far as BASS pro catering to the FUDDS--Hello they are a "sportsman's paradise" not a tactical paradise but that is as far as I'll ever go to defend them.

The Bass Pro in my area doesn't carry them and never will. They have requests for them all of the time from customers as well as employees. Johnny Morris has some family members that really don't like guns and the store near me quit carrying handguns for a long while because of this. Alas, money won out and the store near me sells a lot of handguns now. Evil black rifles are another story, though.

You probably talked to Larry Whitely.

The bass pro in DFW said that they wont carry them as they only carry "sporting firearms"

But yah they are overpriced on just about everything and I dont buy anything there anyhow. There is however an ar dealer right across the street.

I live a mile or so from the one in Cincinnati. They have plenty of handguns and sporting rifles and shotguns but no EBG's that I have seen. The entire "assault weapon" catagory of firearms is rediculous as far as any level headed American should be concerned. :D

Bass Pro is Fudd paradise with the exception they also like pistols.

As if the most popular centerfire target rifle in the United States isn't a "sporting firearm." :scrutiny:

Thank you ben, that is the best way of stating it.

Yes that's who I spoke to. He was quite friendly but it was annoying the way he wanted the issue to just go away and kept saying how frustrated he was that "we attack ourselves," and kept saying that Bass Pro is as pro 2nd amendment as it gets. Do you know what his position in the company is?
