Bathroom gun and rust

mak

get a 149$ makarov, imho.

then clp it and change the ammo every so often. i have fairly expensive switchblades in every room, icnluding my bathroom.. i just CLP, put it in a drawer and I've never had rust problems even though I hot shower like a polish sausage.

and if it does rust?

eh, $149...

heck, I'd buy a slightly rusted mak for $50 any day. i'd just do a home refinishing job.

I have for years used automotive silicone spray to prevent rust on my guns. They don't even show fingerprints.

Just curious, but if you stashed a gun in a bunch of towels, wouldn't you use the towels every so often, and have to at least look at the gun anyway?

Not if you just stand spread eagle in front front of an open window instead...

something else

Also, though the chance modern ammunition will have a problem is about as likely as a modern stainless steel gun having a problem, you may want to seal up your ammo as well.

Just get a bottle of primer sealant and a light coat around the primer annulus and around the case mouth and your moisture worries will be over for the ammo as well.

That is, if you had any worries about the ammo.

Leaving loaded guns stashed throughout the house is negligent. I doubt you lock all of those weapons up when you leave the house. If you don't they are very easy to steal. Stolen guns feed 95% of the illegal guns used in crimes in this country. I am a fire supporter of keeping your guns secured in a safe with the exception of your home defense of ccw gun which should be in your direct control. (ie on your person on in the room with you) I also believe people should be held accountable for foolish storage of weapons. I delt with a case of a 7year old kid shooting his 11 year old brother with a single shot 410 the parents carelessly left out when the left the home. It would have been nice if the parents could have been charged with their stupid behavior. Just like charging a careless gun owner who leaves his guns un-locked in his home when he or she is away. Flame on

355:point taken, and I respect your opinion.....however I have no children of young age..my step son who lives next door knows how to shoot and is actually my back-up..my step daughter is going away to college next week.As for having my gun stolen....anyone who steals my gun is breaking the law.Blaming ME for HIM stealing my gun is kind of like suing Smith and Wesson when he shoots someone...IMO..... :scrutiny:

man this is too simple yet no one has said it.............why not just take your ccw gun with you when you shower.

simply remove it from its holster and place it on the counter top...et cetera.

its never left unattended, it is the gun you carry anyway, and it will get enough attention that you will notice signs of rust and what not.

i have a gun on my person or at hand all the time. whether it be on the bookshelf beside my favorite t.v. watchin' chair, in my pocket doing daily house chores, or on the bathroom counter top when i crap or shower.

is it really that hard? are you really going to stash a gun in your own home? why are you unarmed anyway?........

i guess if you fear a quick criminal entry into your house ( a reasonable concern) why not drop a gun in your pocket and have it with you always instead of trying to dig it out a bag stashed in the bathroom under the toilet seat.....( i thought that one was cute)......

i dont find it inconvenient to carry a gun always, but i do find it inconvenient to have to look for one in an emergency.

JERRY - amen ++. I am so used to this philosophy myself too - I never even thought to throw it in!!

I am personally not in favor for any access being more difficult than arm's length - max. Thus my CCW is just that - whether on the John or in shower - it is almost as accessible as if in my rig.

I wish my wife would holster carry - she just has purse but hey - that carry is better than no carry. We do keep one house gun concealed in bedroom which is not quite immediately accessible but it is there and for emergency use possibly could be handy as backup.

It would be there as back up to my ccw...and for my wife who doesn't carry. My goal is to have a gun stashed as back up in every room.a man can dream :p

I think you are wrong.
Too wrong for me to take the time to tell you how wrong you are. :)

I've seen it at gun shows.

Try float planes if you have a lake nearby.
There's nothing prettier than a Goldberg Cub with a 4 stroke and floats skimming across the water at sun up. :)

Haha...

Though I can understand (and even agree with) the concept of a "bathroom gun", for some reason it just seems like a funny topic to me. In all seriousness though, coming out of the bathroom is where I personally feel most vulnerable in any house I have ever been in. Bathrooms present a very poor tactical situation, especially if you are just getting out of the shower, as that water hitting your grape can cover a ton of noise. Personally, I do not have a bathroom gun. I almost socked my ex-wife one time when she surprised me from behind as I was walking out of the bathroom (entirely on reflex, by the way. I ahve never hit a woman, and I never will). Luckily for her, its a lot easier to pull a punch than it is to slow down a trigger finger. Now granted, I am not talking about carrying a pistol in and out of the head with me, for the bathroom gun would be something that I could reach upon verification of a threat, but still and all, the bathroom is the one area of the house that I am just jumpier than I should be in. Thus, no BG.

Watch those sealed plastic bags! I learned the hard way with various gun parts that a sealed plastic bag ALREADY HAS WATER IN IT even if there's only a little air in there and no matter how tight you seal it from the outside it can still rust badly. From then on I made a point of using lots of riggs grease around the part before bagging it.

One reason I like my SP-101 with the grey finish is it has double protection against water. It makes a great anywhere revolver. SS or coated SS is the way to go.

Actually stainless will rust as you know. I have seen stainless guns stuck to gun cases in the coast. Salt water plays havoc on stainless. The best is Glocks Tefner or simular finish or metal treatment. Glocks have withstood 6 months on the ocean floor and still worked fine.

That's why I like the Ruger's grey finish. It's an extra barrier against rust. Grab one of those coated SP's if you see one--they're excellent.

Glocks do well on the ocean floor because that's where Glocks belong :neener:

So - held with what? Duct tape!??

Wouldn't it be a shame when you put up the seat and your 22 falls into the toilet.

Find yourself one of those siliconized cloths and pin it to the bottom of the towel. That will help in keeping it dry and help keep the towel from absorbing moisture from the gun.
