Old idea. Some percussion pistols used on board ships had blades. Fire your one shot then start hacking at the pirate. Or at the merchant seaman if you ARE the pirate.

Aarrrr...

I guess I really don't see the use of this. It makes more sense to me to just have a good knife on the belt rather than hang one off the front of your handgun. If you watch the video in the link, none of the guys filmed have the bayonet attached. Oh, and I guess I guess I'd rather have an MP5 if we have to use 9mms. :scrutiny:

Oh my!!! If the Brady Bunch find out about this ... :what:

I wonder if they could sell it in California ??? :uhoh: :neener:

I want one! Just for the giggle and neat factor!!

Really, if anyone knows where they are for sale please let me know.

I know, not practical or maybe not smart. But, I want one

It's old and was revised

in WW I. BTW, I have a bayonet that fits on my Webley .455 revolver.

"I just jammed my pistol down into my pants and that is why I talk real high now...."

Jim

I could see a use for it if the old C-rats were still around but doubt that it would be too useful with MREs.

OTOH if we can put the entire army into black beanies then this could be a real comer.

Bayonet on a pistol?

That idea is as old as firearms themselves.
In the days of single shot firearms, I think it was more practical.
The concept is obsolete now.
It compromises the utility of both.

AHH I love that pic...IIRC the comp shooter for CZ had it made as a joke...I am in the process of trying to get a SP-01...

They are out right now :fire:

I know a neat way to dislodge the bayonet if it would happen to stick in the ribcage............. :neener:

Never forget the Czechs are nice people, have lot's of humor, and make good beer :) I'm quite sure some good Czech beer helped the developer.

OTOH, this could be sold to the Brits, the Aussies, the Japs and to the Kalifornians with a welded barrel and deactivated action

And, last not least, who of us wouldn't want to own one just for fun?

It never caught on even in the single shot black powder time because the pistol grip is not a good handle angle for using a blade. Ever see a sword with a pistol grip handle? With magazine reloading autos I see no way this makes any sense. :barf:

I once watched "History Detectives" on PBS and they had a show about a bayonet Apparently the bayonet came from hunting not military. Boar hunters using single shot BP rifles needed something to dissuade angry pork from causing a world of hurt. The military had similar notions and adopted the practice thereafter.

this is a little off topic.. but anyhow-

the word "bayonet" is derivative of the town of Bayonne in France where the bayonet was invented when soldiers who had run out of ammunition for their muskets plunged kitchen knives into the bores to make them into impromptu spears.
