I load the 165 Grain SWC Hunters Supply from Midway, they were on clearance. Win244 has data. Good soft shooters, perfect for the Bulldog. Developed a load to duplicate the Hornady Critical Defense. Same POA/POI. A bit low but won’t hurt the hand, like a +P .38.
Looks like we’re on the same page with these lightweight .44 loads .

Stay safe.

I've got a heavier version of that; a Lee 432-285-RF-GC RanchDog.

Found it at a garage sale, of all places. It looks like it's never been used. I need to fire that thing up and run some through the SRH.
I didn’t know they ever made a heavier version other than the 300 grainer.

I came into cast boolit forum after those group buys ended. The mould I have though, I picked up second hand off castboolits. It casts real nice. I’d like to find the lighter version of it as it shoots pretty good too.

Well I been plinking and some target shooting with my load of 4.8bullseye over RCBS 44-250-k. I’m not sure the velocity as I ain’t got a chronograph.

I also loaded some 432-265-rf over that load to try. I’ve loaded 4.6 before, and the quickloads data I have says it’s still a standard pressure load. Should be a fun test.

I got all the Keith bullets I had cast up loaded the other day. So I felt compelled to make more. Not to mention I moved my casting setup into a new spot and wanted to try it out.

Here I am working on a fresh batch of RCBS 44-250-K bullets. This is 50/50 ww/pb +Sn alloy.

Just out of curiosity, why did you bother starting a thread about the prices of coated bullets?

It wasn’t coated, but cast. I been making them for free for so long, and haven’t kept up with the prices I was shocked what folks pay. That’s one reason. I guess another is, since I don’t set around drinking of the evenings, I got nothin to do except ponder about my own and others reloading idiosyncrasies.

Ah… I stopped casting - and handloading completely - on my own when I moved to a boarding house. No privacy and I was working too many hours to go shooting. Didn’t pick it up again because ready-made were cheaper than my time for top quality bullets. They didn’t start getting expensive until this past nonsense started.

Nowadays my time is worth way more than the savings of making my own but that could change if I retire.

One reason I like casting is because I have virtually an unlimited supply of bullets. I’m not forced into using bullets that I had to buy that were not exactly what I want. So if I bought bullets, maybe the company that makes them might discontinue my favorite bullet, but unless I damage my mould, I’ll have that exact same bullet as long as I want them. I just got to collect more moulds.

These vary by the expander used on the previous batch, and with two different bullet diameters to test. I’m expecting no change but we’ll see.

I did test these a while back and seen little to no difference in accuracy or leading. I shot them rested off the roof of my car so , informal, but nothing to report.

I’ve commenced to size everything at .430 now as it makes it just right for my RCBS cowboy expander plug, giving me .002 neck tension.

Earlier today, I went for a little walk with my young’un, on the back of my land. Just checking it out. Had the 44 special with me of course. Being out in the woods, having a trusted firearm on your side, fresh air and your kid tagging along, It don’t get much better.

I forgot to mention, a while back I had tested the RCBS 44-250-k sized both .431 and .430. I got less leading at .430 while accuracy was the same. I don’t have huge amounts of leading, just a bit at the rifling origin, it doesn’t get worse but is present if I shoot plain based bullets. So switching to .430 sized bullets with the same loads made that minor leading even more minor.

I thought it somewhat odd because my throats are larger than .431, some larger than .432. So I expected the opposite. It just goes to show you that each gun is a law unto itself.

I've always liked loading the 44s. The case is big, easy to handle, fun to deal with. They even make a satisfying 'thunk' when falling into the bin from the LCT cartridge kicker.

Then I switch to 9mm, can't hardly even hang on to those tiny things. When they get kicked out of the LCT after loading, they 'tink' into the bin.
