Top tier rifles, every one of them. Buy with confidence.

Also, try the search feature. BCM has been discussed at length on this forum.

My friend is having a baby and selling his. he is the second owner and its dura coated camo. design is ok. he is askin 750. I know its a great deal for right know. but if it was 6 months ago would it be a good deal? He paid 800

He lost the little spring that holds the piece that holds the buffer tube in. anyone kbow what that spring is called?

note that BCM makes excellent PARTS as well as assembled uppers.
most people who buy from BCM buy parts and assemble the rifles themselves.
the quality of assembly varies greatly.

losing the buffer retaining pin spring? isn't something that would normally happen, and I can only guess is the result of the stock not being assembled properly. it's still a good deal though you may have to rebuild it.

Even if it was an unassembled pile of lightly used BCM parts, that would be a "Buy it now!" kind of deal. Having said that, assembly can be an issue on DIY rifles. The fact that the buffer retaining pin and/or spring is missing is usually a flag indicating someone who doesn't know what they are doing has been monkeying with the rifle. It is an easy item to fix and the part is cheap; but I am always wondering what else they did to it when I see that.

If he paid $800 six months ago I doubt this is a complete BCM. You might want to quiz him about that. I put together a KISS BCM about the same time except used a Valkyrie stripped lower and couldn't keep it under $900.

Anyway, with good parts and no bubbaing this is a steal.

I believe either midway or brownells has an exploded diagram where you can get a replacement spring.

Here is more info. Its a spikes tactical multi cal mod ST15 lower. BCM upper and bolt. The ruffer retainer and spring are damaged because the buffer tube backed up until it wasn't holding the retainer down anymore and when the bold came back the retainer and retainer spring came out.

So I could buy both of those for about 12 bucks. The buffer assembly looks a little beat up but not bad.

BCM makes top tier stuff. Buy it now if it's available. A new bolt carrier group alone could get you $300 in this market.

I would replace the buffer tube, castle nut, endplate, buffer, spring, and the retainer just so I wouldn't worry about any damage that was done but unseen.

Aside from incorrect torque or to misalign the barrel nut its hard to improperly assemble an AR.

Unless you don't stake the castle nut (or at least use removable loctite on the threads) and it backs off while firing like the OP said his did.

if i get a new buffer tube do i need a mil spec or commercial tube?

any recommendations? I just need something standard thats not too expensive

If you want an AR worth a damn again IMO everything should be MIL-Spec.

Mil Spec is a floor not a ceiling. There are lots of good guns that exceed mil spec standards. Take for example a Noveske Chrome lined barrel. There are various configuration of rifles by the top name rifle makers that aren't technically milspec but could be said to be an improvement on it. It helps to be a bit more precise about what the key "mil spec" features you are after. Surely you don't think a 16" mid length Noveske N4 Light upper on a Noveske Gen 2 forged flared lower that houses a Geissele SSA trigger is a gun that is not worth a damn do you?

Lastly I think we need to identify uses before we say whether a given rifle would be worth a damn for it or not. A 20" SS Novekse upper is not Mil Spec. It is not my choice for CQB or even a general use AR. I have other ARs built for those tasks. That 20" gun is VERY good at what is made for. If we are doing precision shooting it will outshine a BCM 14.5" Chrome lined gun or a Colt. Those guns are of course built for different tasks.

That is all the BCM builds MIL-Spec

They have a number of configuration that I would argue are not mil spec including SS barreled guns.

I would agree whole heartily with the sentiment that BCM builds quality stuff.
