got my MIDDY in today/install it/new bcm bolt. headed down 2 dads range tomorrow any recommendations on breaking in a chrome lined barrel? or do i just break it in same as i do a normal barrel...1 shot clean it and repeat 10-12 times then clean every 3rd or 4th round fired..thats the way i've broken in all my other AR's (non chrome lined)

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm cutting cardboard silhouette targets this morning got 5 done so far....i intend to have a ball. i won't be doing any shooting off sandbags 2day dad's range is really sett up for pistol but its fun 2 run through it with a carbine. so i'll wait and do a range report next week when i can get out 2 the rifle range

got a 100rds through the pipe........shoots great....only thing that bugs me is the is 5.56 Winchester white box brass was landing at around 4o'clock running a mid length with a a2 standard buffer and stock. allso running a full auto bolt carrier...what else can i do?

yep, as others have said, just shoot the crap out of it.

but as you have already done that, i hope you have fun with it,
i know i did with mine!:neener::D

glad it turned out a winner,
Kenny

any thing else i can do about this timing issue? don't worry about it shoot 200-300 rds per weekend?JP adjustible gasblock?

well as i understand it when ur brass is landing at around 1 o-clock ur in good shape....much past 3 and your over gassed intern your AR is trying 2 extract the brass before it contracts back 2 its normal size

I was considering a BCM Stainless Steel barrel. I understand that the chrome lined barrel doesn't have a need for "breaking in". What about the Stainless Steel?

i would break the SS barrel in with care 1 shot clean it repeat 12 times allow the barrel 2 cool after each shot after that clean every 3rd again cool it down between 3 shot groups do this 15-20 times after that u should be in good shape

A bit of opinion. I believe 3 oclock to be perfect. 4 oclock is where I would expect a 14.5" middy to eject to.

Hotter ammo should push your pattern forward some more. Did you shoot simple .223 or milspec 5.56?

zero i was shooting 5.56 winchester white box

Problem solved. (if you really want to call 4oclock a problem) Grab some SSA.
WWB is kinda weak.

I doubt your BCM is overgassed, maybe under gassed by weak ammo. But I think more gas like a 16" carbine gas system bounces the case off the deflector and sends rounds forward. Less gas means more rearward ejection. BCM should be one of the best at properly sizing the gas port IME.

Chrome-lined barrels do not need to be broken in. The surface is so hard that the bullets erode just about nothing. Just give the barrel a light cleaning to clear it of any obstructions. Then clean and lube your bolt carrier. You should be gtg then.

well zero i feel better by that chart i'm perfect i've got a bunch oh mill surplus 5.56 that will be my ammo next week end gonna see what the middy will do at 200-300yds

That is a subject of some debate. If you search "barrel break-in" you should find plenty of discussion on that topic. Personally, I don't bother with it; but I know and respect guys who think it is worth the time.

I did, actually. Apparently there are many who claim it to be unnecessary for any barrel of quality, . . . and even cheaper barrels don't need it. Each shot begins to "ruin the barrel", and it would seem that no one has provided with information that shows any appreciable benefit to "breaking a barrel in".

If I get a new upper, I'll just shoot a few rounds in a setting, then clean it when I get home.
