he should've brought some firecrackers - for real?

OK...so let me get this straight...

While a bear is charging you, you're going to fish around in your pockets....past all that lint and paintball goo that you left in there from last weekend. Grab your Bic, to light a fuse on a "Big Firecracker", and throw it at a charging bear that was not intimidated by the sound of a dangerous game rifle's report a few seconds earlier.

Yeah....do that and tell us how it works out for you.

On a more serious note - I thought it was an awesome video - and showed extreme courage and marksmanship on the part of the hunter and cameraman and guide.

I watched that video on Vs. the other day, and I didn't see a thing wrong with it.

To put a close to this argument, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game investigated the shooting, which I presume included watching the (unedited) video, and ruled it to be justifiable and legal. Having watched the TV version, I didn't watch the linked video all the way through so I don't know if it showed that part or not.

I am with Leaky Wader's on the firecracker idea, let us know "how that works out for you" but make sure you take you video camera so we can all learn from the experience. That may work well for the guy who is carjacking you too, someone else let me know how that works out.
Okay, sorry this was getting pretty funny. It sounds like a few commenting on the video do have some experience with hunting large and dangerous game and had some really good points. My observation is those who have the experience seem to have the best analysis of the clip. I think those who hunt dangerous game need to understand what they are getting into when they set out, you better have your mind made up before hand of what you would do in a situation like this or you won't have time to appreciate the video when it is over. It looked like to me a great example of exactly what to do in that situation. Jeopardy, opportunity and ability, need a I say more.

Good shot by the guide in a tough situation. Those bears are big, strong, and fast.
I noticed in the video that he jumped in front of the hunter who had his rifle zeroed on the sow too... not to bright but I guess hindsite is 20/20
