Beeman GS 1000 Problems (( HELP ))

I haven`t shot a Air Rifle much for 50 years and I am needing some help. I have a Beeman GS100 in 177 cal with a good scope mounted on it . And have had it for 20 years and never shot it much. What have I got, do I have a good Air Rifle, is says on the barrle made in Spain and it is a springer. The rifle is in real good shape and a nice stock. But when I shoot it at 10yds, it will group touching for 3 or 4 shoots and then it might be an inch or better between holes. The rifle is very powerful it will shoot thru my wooden fence. But accuray wise it is all over the place. The rifle appears to not have a smooth crown, and I was told that Beeman GS 1000`s quite often needed a new crown job done on them to make them shoot very well. If so how is that done a Gun Smith I know says He has never did a crown job on a Air Rifle befor and was not sure if it was any different form any other rifle. I have checked the scope and the mounts and Ihave never found them to be loose so I think the scope is ok. Could any body give me some guidance on what to do to solve my problem on this. I recently picked up a dual caliber Beeman and had issues right off the bat. Neither caliber would shoot with the accuracy I wanted. I cruised several air gun forums and found out that they need to be cleaned and "re-bedded".
On my gun there are 3 "action" screws that hold the barreled action to the stock. The 2 in the front are angled into the cocking block and the one in the rear is set at a 90 degree angle to the receiver. Remove all 3 and clean the metal and wood wherever they touch. When reinstalling the barreled action use a torque screw driver to get the screws to a uniform tightness. (this part is critical to the success of the job)
Accuracy improved dramatically but still not to my satisfaction. I then began experimenting with different brands and weights of pellets until I found the ONE that MY rifle preferred.
I only did this with the .22 set up since I wanted to kill squirrels that had decided to eat my vinyl siding. I didn't feel like the .177 would kill them cleanly at the distances my shots would be (20 to 30 yards) Hope this helps......

There are many factors that can ruin accuracy, and the cheaper the gun the more likely they have more than one problem so it can be very frustrating to figure it out. The crown is one, and while these airguns aren't as affected by a bad crown as much as firearms or pcp guns, they almost always have really bad crowns to make up for it. So yes, I would try to make the crown better. No, doing a crown on one isn't different than a firearm. I would also look into other problems like what Baily said, and things like tuning the gun, removing play in the barrel, eliminating seal leakage, adjusting the parallax in the scope, shimming the scope to match the barrel, and of course you the shooter need to do your part which is different than with firearms.
I can be more specific with any/all, just ask...
From what you describe I'd first look at parallax, pellets, barrel play, and your hold on the gun.

Bailey & Chevota : Thanks so much for the (( INFO )) you guys sent me. On my Air Rifle, I have not shot one much for a long time. But I looking into setting up a little range in the back yard. And I have some Crows land in the trees back there and they sure cause a mess. So I thought other than just target practicing all the time, I might just thin out some of thoes Little Black Buggers, If I get a chance. Any other info You Guys might send my way would be greatly apprecaited. Have a great Easter.

I don't know about your area, but once I drop a Crow I won't have another land in that area for at least a year. That is assuming at least one witnessed the kill. I don't know how they communicate that information, but they do...
Write me at [email protected], remind me of who you are and I'll send you my tuning guide. It's full of tips and fixes for these common problems. Everything is free or very cheap (like buying grease and sandpaper), and most anyone can do them with minimal tools, and they work.

I have a GS 1000 22 Caliber rifle which also shot very poor 25 yard groups. I used J-B followed by J-B Bore Bright to clean the barrel . I pushed the cleaning jag with patch out the muzzle and removed the jag before removing the cleaning rod from the barrel. There were very fine slivers of steel extended out the muzzle of the barrel. I used a brass screw chucked into and old hand turned drill to use the slotted head to re- crown the muzzle which cut off the steel slivers. There is no difference in re-crowning a steel pellet rifle barrel than a rim fire or center fire barrel. My 22 GS rifle now has 30 yard cotton tail rabbit shooting accuracy. But I also tried various brands and weights of pellets in my rifle to find which were accurate.

If it's 20 years old, it needs a shot of good spring piston air gun oil in the piston to lube the seal.
If it's dry, you will get inconsistent velocity between shots that will spoil your accuracy.

Not normal oil either.

Chevota, bracer, & remodle: I can`t tell You Guys how much I appreicate your help and info, on solving my problems with my air rifle. Sorry it took me so long to ansewer, but I have been down with the croop, for the last few days and have been hiding in the bathroom. I hope to set up a small range in the back yard and do some target shooting. And if I can shoot a Crow once in awhile, that will be all the better. I was always told that a Crow and a Coyote are two of the smartest critters we have. Again thanks so much for your help, I am saveing your e-mails for sure. Any other info You might think of I would sure be glad to hear it.
