Well, so far the only movie I've seen this year has been "300". Which got a thumbs up from me.
This one looks promising. With Robert Zemeckis at the helm it should be a good one.

Beowulf

might be good but looks too much like Alexander or Troy to do the story justice. If you know and like Beowulf there is a book called Grendel by John Gardiner that tells the tale from the monster's point of view. great reading.

wow, i really clicked on this thead expecting to find a the video of that guy shooting the toliet with his .50 cal ar....

Awful. Contrived storyline. Preening oiled bodies writhing in soft porn poses. Horrible plastic looking CGI. I'd rather have a guy in a monster suit than that detritus. I'd rather have a garbage can put over my head and be beaten by two weightlifters with driving irons than sit through something like that.

I was just watching the remastered "Lawrence of Arabia" last night and it really drove home what ABSOLUTE JUNK we're served up at the cinema today. Or heck, just watch any of the fights in Milius' Conan and tell me anything on computers can compare. Even the troubled production of "The 13th Warrior" had actual people doing the fighting instead of this digital slush.

Remember, Zemeckis is the same fellow who creeped out a generation of kids with "The Polar Express." This film uses that same technique, probably in hopes of creeping out even more people. Next to rotoscope it's my most hated filming method.

While there have been great advances in Cg it will never beat the real deal. If you really want to see a movie that can really look cool and tell the story then you need to check this out.

Its got Gerard Butler and is pretty good. very "realistic" characters and all.

i find it fascinating that Hollywood has been so busy digging through the Western Culture's archive of heroes, all while promoting the non-existence of heroes in the present.

Unless Beowulf shoots Grendal with a gun, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this one is off topic.
