Beretta 21A or Ruger LCP II?

The main reason I got this was I wanted something lighter than the Phoenix I have (that is an absolute wonder with how well it performs relative to its price) and because it could be a decent trainer for .380 LCPs I have.

I don't particularly care if it runs perfectly, but I do prefer it to.

After this if I do bother with another small pocket .22, it will be the .22 Short Beretta. At least that can act as a trainer for the .25 if I ever buy one of those in the future.

Whereas a misfire with a Beretta 21A cannot be cleared as quickly or as easily. It doesn't have an extractor, and the rim of the misfired cartridge is effectively swaged to the breech by the firing pin. It requires a tool to pry the misfired cartridge out of the chamber after tipping up the barrel.
While nowhere as easy as just racking the slide, I've never needed more than a finger nail to get the shell out.

Misfires with an LCR II are easily cleared by tap/rack, because it has an extractor.

You’re right, the Beretta doesn’t have an extractor. However, it does have re-strike capability, which may be beneficial with rimfire rounds.
