At 15 yards what is a typical accuracy on a Beretta 92????

I am getting about 4 inches at a slow rate of fire. I was hoping for better than that due to the long barrel. I have to say that this is when you can tell between gun makers. With a Sig 226 I get around 1-1 1/2 inch groups at 15 yards.

My question is for those of you out there what are you grouping????

It's been a while since I grouped a standard 92, but I know it was less than 4 inches. A 92 Elite II was my competition gun for many years and it grouped right around 1.50 at 25 yards.

How are you firing? All shots DA, or first shot DA, subsequent SA, or all SA? I assume you are shooting off hand, with no rest? First thing I would do would be to group the gun off of a rest, and take the shooter out of the equation. Could be that the 92 just doesn't "fit" you.

It may not be the gun, and it may not be your fault either.

It may simply be that the ergos of the gun doesn't fit your hands.

I own a M92fs that I can't shoot at all but my friends can punch cloverleafs at 15 yards. The grip size+ long trigger just doesn't work in my hands. That's why I prefer other pistols.

checked out

I am shooting in SA mode. I think that the beretta may not be for me, but I hate to get rid of it. I thought about sending it back to Beretta to have it checked out.

In my experience, the accuracy of the 92 varies quite a bit. My son-in-law's dad had one that was, at best, minute-of-barn door. Pitiful! I had one for a while that was much better but still no bullseye gun. I have a friend who recently bought one that is a really good shooter.

I think it has something to do with the way the barrel is locked up. Some of them just don't lock the barrel down tightly and therefore don't shoot well.

YMMV and I may be way off on the reason. Just my experience.

My 92FS INOX shoots to the left 1" at 7 yards.

I need to drift th edight slightly. Otherwise it's right on.

My 92FS is pretty dead-on for me. I can do much better than 4" at 15 yds.

I'd hate to see it go, but you gotta get what fits.

If Beretta is what you like, I'd like to suggest you rent/try a Px4 Storm. You'll find it very familiar as a 92 owner. Very good gun born from the Cougar, and I shoot around 30-45% tighter groups with mine.

Hope you solve your dilemma to your satisfaction.

Can't talk about the 92, but I shot my friend's 96 and it was far more accurate than 4 inches at 15 yards.

You may not shoot that particular gun as well. I shoot Glocks lights out and I am deadly with My S&W Revolver but I can't shoot a Sig to save my life. Not the guns fault it just doesnt fit me.

I shot 220 rounds the other day at 15yds and all but 4 went into the black bullseye. Most were in a 2" hole. That was with a 92FS.

most 92 and 96 that i've shot would go inside 2" at 15 yards. it's really more definative if you compare guns at 25 yards

i find it funny when folks compare groups at 7 yards. at that range, all your shots should be on top of each other

LegalAlien's target looks a lot like my dbl taps at 30 feet. mine shoots well enough to be used in some idpa's when high cap trumps my kimbers better accuracy.

Going to the range tonight so I drug along my Beretta 92F and shot this target at 15 yds a little slower than a rapid fire. The gun will shoot better with Winchester Ranger ammo and I've shot a 2.5" group off the bench at 25 yds with SXT 124gr +P+ but I only shoot that on rare occasions, mostly its for carry. I'm only an average shot.

Have someone else shoot your pistol. If the other guy shoots a good group, then the 92 just doesn't fit you. Or, shoot it slow fire with your weak hand supported. I have found that with some guns my groups improved dramatically with my left hand, others got worse.
It's NOT normal for the 92fs to shoot 4" groups at that distance. Our friendly competitions here can yield 4" groups at 50M.

The 92FS that I bought new from CDNN a couple of years back seemed ammo sensitive. It was shotgunning badly at 25 yards with the same 124 gr. subsonic handloads that made my CZ 75B a tackdriver.

After a bit of experimentation, I found that my 92FS shot best with 115 gr. subsonic loads (950 fps) loaded a bit on the long side (1.160"). I am able to consistently achieve sub-3" groups on the 92FS at 25 yards with this handload.

I have not shot any commercial ammo through my 92FS yet, but would nonetheless suggest that you try several different brands of ammo through your gun to see if accuracy improves.

Took my 92FS to work today. Got in a little trigger time. I don't carry it as my duty weapon any more, a Sig P220 .45acp fills that bill, but I still love shooting my Beretta.

All shooting was done from about 15yds (16 paces). I had five magazines (15rds) all loaded up. The first couple mags were fired slow fire, the last three mags were fired in failure drill mode (two to the body, one to the head).

Load was 115gr Rainier FMJ over 6.5gr of HS6 in mixed brass cases.

Body shots.

I think it has something to do with the way the barrel is locked up. Some of them just don't lock the barrel down tightly and therefore don't shoot well.

If you have other folks shoot the pistol with the same results, I believe the above statement is where you should start looking for a fix.

People used to think 1911's were minute of barn door, but they had typically only shot old military surplus guns where the bushing was worn out.

New Beretta M92 FS OK for league?

I need a 92FS because it's required for a particular pistol league event. Are new ones OK?

Thanks.

I've read of issues with worn ones but not new. Shot a friends Beretta a couple weeks ago and was holding 2 inch groups at 15 yards offhand. His gun was capable of far better than that...I wasn't.

It takes some people a while to get used to a certain gun, different grip, grip angle, trigger pull etc... give it some time and even more practice and see how you do.

Anyone ever heard of a benchrest?

:uhoh:

Steve... There you go, trying to introduce some logic into the discussion ;)

Before panning the accuracy of a firearm, you should make sure that it's not the mechanics involved in you or the shooter in question. In order to test accuracy on a pistol the gun should be in a solid rest. Since most people don't have them, you can use a sandbag or other rest as needed to eliminate as much of the arc of movement as possible. You won't be able to fully eliminate movement even from a sandbag or other support type rest. At least not as long as you're alive;)

Now, that is not to say that there is, or isn't an accuracy problem with your particular gun, or a fit problem or what have you. Just that you should benchrest the gun and see if you can shoot it accurately from a rest. Try to eliminate as many of the variables as possible before coming off the rest and shooting from a standing position.
