I have a friend that is new to guns and is looking at getting a Berretta 92 full size. I personally own and like the sig 226, but I had a friend in the cqb group in the marines and he liked his beretta, even though a lot of people hate them.

I have handled the vertec and been told by many people that the beretta vertec is a better 92. What are the advantages of the vertec over the standard or even elite 92? Any input or advice is very helpful. thanks for the help

Advantages?

None. The grip angle is an aesthetic issue, or of personal preference at best, it doesn't make the gun better or worse IMO. The Vertec does give you a 92 series with an accessory rail, something else I think is a solution in search of a problem. One thing the Vertec has over the standard 92 - removable, dovetailed front sites! If the Vertec does it for you, great! If it doesn't, also great... I'm actually picking one up very soon myself, but I don't see it having any advantage per se. Whatever you decide, every 90 series Beretta should be delivered as worked on by Ernest -

Ernest does great work on Berettas & Sigs.

The Vertec fits smaller hands better.

I have one, it's accurate and has been 100% reliable. However, the Vertec requires a trigger/action job for a decent trigger. I had one done on mine, but I think I'm still going to send it to Langdon for his level II trigger job.

what about the elite 92 what is the difference?

Main difference is decock only, brigadier slide. Lots of minor differences. If you get an Elite II make sure you get extended mag releases for all your Berettas as it feels a bit different and can mess you up if you get used to it.

92G Elite IA is basically a Vertec Elite. The G-SD is a cross between a Vertec and an Elite II.

Vertec main differences are the removable frontsight (keep in mind I think they are a different height than std 92FS, IIRC), light rail, and different grip. The major suck part on the Vertecs, IMO is the short trigger. Supposedly they have beveled magwells but I could never tell. Same with the Elites.

A bit offtopic...

How much of a difference does the LTT Speedbump trigger make? My 92F has a bit of overtravel with the factory trigger. Also, does it affect the pull or how cleanly it breaks?

Own a 92FS Vertec Inox and a SIG P225. Both are accurate and 100% reliable. The SIG is "perfect" right out of the box. The Vertec requires the following (IMHO) to make it "perfect": replace plastic guide-rod with a stainless steel one, trigger job, shorter trigger reset, and lose the plastic trigger. If only my 9mm 1911's had been anywhere near as reliable as the SIG and Beretta......

My Vertec needed a little work on the trigger. You can make a few simple adjustments yourself. Installing a lighter hammer spring is one of them. Be careful if it is a self-defense gun though.

Otherwise, I really like it! It is fine now!

Why? The lighter spring is a standard factory part that goes in their DAO :barf: and Elite II  pistols.
