If you're getting it just for the heck of it, go with the .25 ACP and reload. It's the smallest reloadable round around! A can of powder will last years!

Gotta love my 21 with Stingers. For that matter it has been 100% with everything I have ran thru it, bulk and all.

I wish I had the same results as sigma 40ve ^^^^^^^

For too long I was buying the expensive CCI Stingers (nothing else would shoot a full mag w/o a jam of some sort).
But I found Fiocchi 40 High Velocity!!!!!
$2.69 at my LGS, instead of $6 or $7 for the Stingers.

I can shoot about 100 rounds before it starts giving me FTEs.
(a quick cleaning & it's back in business)

By the way I also have a Colt 1908 Hammerless in 25.ACP
The ammo is scare in my area & expensive -
$20/box of 50 locally in the one place I found any.
$13.99 at MidwayUSA, but then you have to add shipping.

For the minimal gain of a .25 acp over a 22lr, the cost is just not worth it.

Theoretically, a centerfire should have more reliable ignition than a rimfire.

With good quality ammo, I don't know how much it really matters.

.22 lr is ridiculously cheaper than .25 acp, so that really should be a concern. .22 lr is also widely availible.

I have a 950 .25acp and it has performed flawlessly. Won't ever put enough rounds through it to be concerned about cost of ammo.

22LR or 25ACP... That is the question...

I recently acquired a Beretta model 418 - 25ACP at the local pawn shop. It caught my eye because it has a safety built into the grip exactly like a 1911 only smaller, a lot smaller. It also has a swing away safety on the frame. It's an older pistol having been made in 1954 or 56, somewhere in the early 50's but it's a great shooter. Haven't had any jams yet although I've only put about 50 rounds through it. So I guess I really can't talk about jamming issues.

But I still want to get a 22LR because they're so much cheaper to shoot. As for lethality, well neither is considered a man stopper but i've heard some swear the 22LR is far more effective. Any opinions on lethality of the 22 vs 25???

Well.....I wouldn't want to get shot by either one, regardless.
I, also, have heard that business about the .22 being more lethal. I place that in the same category as alligators in the NYC sewer system.
A couple of years ago, owning both a .22 with a two inch barrel and a .25 ACP pistol with a two inch barrel, I chrono'd them both.
Using factory SV .22s (more about that in a moment) and factory .25s, the .25 ACP came out about ten percent ahead on ME (neither is a powerhouse....65ftlbs for the .25 vs. 60 for the .22). The .22 had the edge in velocity but the .25 shoots a heavier, fatter, bullet. The little .25 can be handloaded to produce over 80 ft.lbs.
How does that translate into lethality? Dunno.
I have had the intention to chrono some HV and UHV .22s from that little .22 pistol - but have not yet done that. From what I understand, though, the Stingers and such are optimized for use in a rifle. I wonder how much efficiency is lost in a very short barrel.

Quite a bit considering the fireball coming out the barrel. CCI's specs for Stingers are around 1640 fps out of a rifle. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=594994

Over at GoldenLoki's gel tests, there are results of the Stingers (and other ammo) coming out of the Beretta's cousin, the Taurus PT22. Stinger muzzle velocity is down to 1001 fps and the Taurus' barrel is nearly 3/8" longer than the Bobcat. http://www.goldenloki.com/ammo/gel/22lr/gel22lr.htm
