Beretta M9/92FS

The slide separation issue affected a very limited number of military contract pistols. I have never heard of any of the civilian market Berettas having this problem. From what I can tell, there were 3 slide failures in the field and around 10 more during lab testing. The military required that all future slides be manufactured in the U.S. and since that change there have been no futher problems. In addition, Beretta made a modification to the pistol that ensures that the slide will not fly off the gun even if it were to separate.

USMC Tanker,

While not a Taurus fan-boy, I do own a PT92AF. It's less expensive than a Beretta, has a frame mounted safety/decocker, 17 round mags, and a pic rail on the dust cover. Fit and finish are good. Reliability is the same as a 92/M9. What you don't get: While the fit and finish of the PT92 is good, the Beretta 92's is great.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying a Beretta, just throwing an alternative out there for you to consider.

Mike

There's the 90-TWO which also addresses some of the hypothetical accidental decock issues with the slide mounted decocker by changing the angle slightly. It's slight but enough to dramatically decrease the possibility. I like to get a high grip on my 92 so I wonder if a frame mounted decocker would interfere with that. I don't think going for anything with different controls (cept maybe the 90-TWO) would be a good idea just in case you find yourself in the sandbox again.

Just drop in a lighter hammer spring. You can get the Beretta 92D hammer spring which makes a huge improvment in the DA and a slight improvment in the SA. You can also get 1911 hammer springs and they fit and work perfectly as well. I put 1911 hammer springs in alll my Berettas and they are much better. I think I paid $9.99 for a three pack of the 1911 hammer springs and the job takes about 5 minuits and can be done by someone with zero gunsmithing skills so there is no reason not to do it yourself. Check out the Beretta forum on what to do and how to do it but it is not a big job at all.
yep, changing out the trigger return spring (leaf type) with a Wolff reduced power coil spring isn't a bad idea either (more durable, slightly better trigger). You could also use a heavier recoil spring, unless you're more competition oriented. actually there's lots of nice mods to discuss but I guess that can wait.

I have not had a problem with them, since they came out. And my guys would share two or three pistols to Q a whole squad.

I bought the new px4 today. $400 at the LE supply store. Anybody got a clue on these?

You ever meet big dude named Gunny Reed? Old friend of mine. He was a tanker and A recruiter, he had an office down the way from me.
