AMMO.....mostly Winchester Wildcats. Very few hang ups. They were cheap and fairly reliable. Have not fired the 70s for a few years. If I decide to blow the dust out of it I'll use Federal Champions. They are what I currently have on hand. I feel this pistol is well made, a decent shooter and very affordable when I bought it. I'm still on the market for the longer 5" barrel that was an option.
I had two of these pistols and sold one. I do regret that.
its a .22 also. when my buddy's p22 was jamming like a dog..i just kept on a shooting.
my 70s has never jammed its the only .22 semi that i own that i can say that about.
i only use cci minimags though hollow points. well no i lied i have used some quikshocks and those worked perfect also.
its as accurate as my bull barreled ruger mk2 until about 25yds.
its just a neat accurate .22 auto and i like the fact that the Israeli mossad used them with good effect.
Yeah, I have one in .22. Don't know much about the other models in different calibers though. I found that CCI works very well, both Mini Mag and Stingers. The gun will jam like crazy if I use hollowpoint Federal and Remington bulk pack. Would it be bad to use Stingers?
After reading this thread I decided to blow the dust out of my 70S. After 20-30 rounds the slide would stay locked in the rearward position after every shot. I have 3 magazines....the problem would not go away.
Range officer could not figure it out. I'm scratching my head and losing more hair.
Anyway, the grips were slightly loose. After every shot the grips would push the slide release upward locking the slide back. Tightened the grips...everything is ok.
Something to keep in mind if you have this problem.
I've had one for nearly 30 years; in all that time it has never jammed, failed to feed, or failed to eject. Initially I had a problem with the bluing, finding surface rust primarily on the frame. Beretta acknowledged the problem, refinished the whole gun under warranty, and was fine for several years. Then the rust came back and I eventually had the whole gun hard chrome plated by Metalife. The only other modification I made was in fitting an older factory set of non-thumbrest grips to my 70S. My particular pistol has fed everything from Winchester, Remington, and Federal, with a definite preference for CCI MiniMags. Accuracy has been more than adequate for any application. I consider this pistol to be the semi-auto equivalent to the S&W Model 34 Kit Gun.
I had one new in 1979, and paid under $90 for it. It worked with any ammo. I sold it like a dummy ten years later for $225. I am sorry I got rid of it, I even had spare grip plates that did not have the thumb rest. Kick me.
I've owned my 70S for many years. Carried as backup in Beirut and other places. www.cookbakercandlestickmaker.com Great gun. Israeli's like it too. "Sword of Gideon" the book.
