Beretta Nano Subcompact: Yay or Nay?

I'm underwhelmed by the linked article, which is full of puffery. I'll reserve judgment till I see a report of actual usage.

My guess is that it will cost about $100 more than it should for what it does, but I don't care for Beretta handguns and never really have.

I was able to compare several of the main "compact" "pocket" "Slim" (whatever) 9mm's yesterday at the local gun show.

Most are simply way to big for pocket carry : PF9, PPS, LC9
(I understand there are lots of different pocket out there but)

Some are closer: Kahr PM9

Some seem real nice but big $$$: Rhorbaugh, Kimber Solo

In the end I just didn't see the allure of these small 9mm's except that they are thin. The Kimber solo felt real nice in the hand though.

At least the Beretta doesn't have all sorts of levers hanging off of it like the LC9 and the Solo - Safeties? Really? I guess.

How about some facts:

Beretta Nano Specs
OVERALL LENGTH 5.63"
OVERALL HEIGHT 4.17"
GRIP WIDTH .90"
BARREL LENGTH 3.07"............MSRP $475

Kahr PM9/CM9
LENGTH 5.42"
HEIGHT 4.00"
Grip Width .90
Barrel Length 3.00"............MSRP $565

So we have guns that are functionally the same size...but the Beretta Nano ships with 2 mags (CM9 only ships with 1), has melonite coating, easily replaceable sights, and is $90 cheaper. If it functions well, I think Beretta may be onto something here.

I've been considering a CM9 or PM9 for pocket carry, so I'd give this Beretta a look since it's the same size. Will it have a sweet trigger like the Kahr's though?

The trigger's been described as "Glock-like," we'll see when it ships. I MUCH prefer the Glock trigger to the Kahr trigger. We'll see come October how this thing stacks up.

The Kahrs are larger than their specs because the mags are not flush with the grips. I think the Nano is going to be the same size as the CM9 with a mag inserted.

Considering the Beretta Bobcat is an unreliable disaster, I'm not at all optimistic about this one. And it's not looking good against the Ruger SR40C.

If you can carry an SR sub-compact in your pocket, God bless. You either constantly wear cargo shorts or you're 7 feet tall.

Ruger LC9
Length: 6.00"
Height: 4.50"
Width: 0.90"

The Ruger LC9's extra 3.3/10ths of an inch in height is the difference between fitting it in a pants pocket and not. Once it's no longer a pocket gun, why would you want to carry a single-stack IWB when Glock 26/XD-SC/Ruger SR9/M&Psc double stacks are available and carry so easily with a good IWB holster?

I'm very interested in these i've been looking for for a pistol of this size for a long time and had my mind made up on the kahr cm9 but now I've decided to wait so i can compare them both

I'm interested... I respect beretta. Loved my Issued M9, many fond memories. I now hold close a Px4 Strorm .40, and love everything about it. I do need to swap out my little model 70s.... Never quite got into that gun and for the price of it, I'd give it a good home...

My lc9's in my pocket right now, the recluse holster really helps 'round off' the grip length and I like 7+1. I dig barettas though and will definitely be keeping an eye out for the nano in .40.

I wonder if that side mounted striker disconnect will be an issue with some or perhaps a true problem??

I'd say Yay if it is reliable and durable out of the box.

I remember how long it took Kahr to get the bugs out of the the PM9 and PM40 before I decided to buy them. This is hardly limited to Kahr as all other manufacturers, including Beretta, seem to be unable to get it right the first time.

I like the looks and features of the Nano and would definitely buy the .40 version but not until Beretta has gotten all of the bugs out first.
