What guns would you put in the same category as the Px4 with respect to quality/ reliabilty in a hammer fired DA/SA with external safety (either all metal or polymer)? I can't think of many options?

in the price range I can think of none. add a couple hundred and then there's the CZ75 and FN Herstal FNX and add a couple more hundred and there is the sig sauer P226.

the sig is the ugliest but it's my favorite DA/SA that I've fired to date. however I am a striker man myself...

... I would take an XDM over all of the bove and have done so on 3 occasions. :D

P226 is my top choice for 9MM pistol but it does not have a safety, unless you get an X-Five :D.

If I had to buy a pistol with that criteria it would be a HK P30S.

Stoeger Cougar
Bersa Thunder HC9 Pro
Bersa Thunder UC9 Pro

I have two Cougars and a UC9 and all three have been flawless.

There may be some dissenters or bashers that will post on here concerning the Bersa pistols but I assure you that in my personal experience and others (that I know) know Bersas are damn fine and highly under rated guns.

Serious question, why is a safety a necessity? My 226 has served me well without one. I feel the DA is the safety.

I feel the same way and don't want to have to worry about an external safety under an extreme stress situation. But each to their own.

Are you guys saying the PX4 is more expensive than the cz75? In my area PX4 run 650 to 700 being more expensive than the cz75 and in the same range as the sig.

HK USP with the V1 trigger has an external safety and decocker. Surprised no one brought that up.

I consider Ruger P series pistols to be better quality than Beretta but I have a chip on my shoulder about them.
