Owners of the PX4, speak for this pistol. I am interested in it. How does it handle? How is the trigger? I am really interested in the trigger. The only DA/SA I own is a P99.

I have looked at many pistols in recent weeks and I am quite impressed with the PX4 and it is one of my two finalists. I am now shopping for price and I am starting to see the trend towards more reasonable pricing of this model on the internet. My local shops want all the kings gold for it presently, but I am sure that will change in the coming months as they become more readily available....

I finally had the oppurtunity to fire this weapon and I am impressed with it's feel, workmanship and accuracy. Any mistakes made regarding the latter is the fault of the operator and not the pistol.....:cuss: :D

SHIPWRECK,

That is quite a collection you have.....my other finalist is the S&W 99, can you please pass on your opinions of the two guns one on one....
Any info you may be able to pass on to me will be greatly appreciated.....
I am torn between these 2 firearms and I am not sure as yet which will be the ultimate winner...although Beretta has the edge so far......

Thanx,

RED DOG

The only thing keeping me from purchasing the PX4 is I am waiting on a range report detailing the trigger. Love beretta's, have an Inox, but if its like the inox, long, very long DA pull, I will pass. If it is close to the P99 trigger in action, I will buy it.

I have owned one and carried it for a couple of weeks. I have about 500 rounds through it so far. I have not had a single malfunction even though I just took it out of the box and started shooting. Haven't cleaned it yet.

The unique rotating bbl lockup results in a very low bore axis and minimal muzzle flip when firing. The trigger feels like a Sig to me - DA is not too heavy; smooth and consistent with no stacking. SA is crisp. I paid $489 for mine, and think it is well worth it.

BTW, I shoot it better than a Walther P99 because of the bore axis thing.

Well, I looked at the new Beretta at the gunshow this past weekend. I was slightly tempted, but haven't really been drawn to their new gun.

I rented a S&W99 2x previously, and fell in love with the gun, I love the SA trigger on the gun, and I shoot it as well as my Glock 34 w/ the 3lb connector on the trigger. The DA/SA feature on a striker based gun is pretty cool. I liked it so much I decided to get one. I wanted the Walther version because it looks a bit cooler, but the A/S models of the Walther are no longer imported, and they are getting harder and harder to get your hands on (they have a new QA trigger now, that is like a Glock but w/ a heavier pull). I managed to get a compact Walther 2 weeks ago, but had no luck getting the full size version.

I saw the S&W version for $439, and figured that was a great price. The S&W 99 is the same as the Walther A/S model, pretty much. I debated on whether to buy the S&W or wait and keep looking for a Walther. I did find a QA Walther, and I compared the feel of the grip between both brands of guns. Amazingly enough, the S&W version felt more comfortable in my hand. So, I bought that one. I also saved at least $100 w/ the S&W.

I've previously fired the rental version SW99, so I knew what to expect when I went and tried the gun on Sunday. I also like the interchangable grips and front sights that come w/ the gun.

Have you tried the SW99? The trigger is a bit unusual, and it does take a while to get used to it. I didn't like it the 1st time I rented it, but tried it again a month later and really fell in love w/ it.

As for the Beretta. Maybe it's just me, but I don't care for polymer pistols that have a traditional hammer on them. If I buy a gun like that, I want a metal gun. For polymer guns, you typically see a striker based gun, like a Glock.

I have a Beretta 92, and I love that gun. It's a beautiful gun too. This new Beretta doesn't really seem like a "Beretta" to me. Also, I find that I shoot the S&W99 more accurately than my Beretta (it's just me, not necessarily the gun), so I decided to stick with the S&W.

Be aware that while the Beretta does come w/ an interchangable, they don't currently have the other grips for sale. So, if ya get one now, you'll have to buy that seperately later.

I personally think that the new S&W M&P seems like a cool gun. I plan to check that out later this year when it is released.

I've seen the Beretta PX4 at gun shows, but don't have a particular impression about them yet. I'm not sure what it has to offer compared to a FNP-9, for example. On the other hand, if Beretta comes out with 20-round magazines for this gun (as I've read on glocktalk), I may need to take another look at it.

As for the the trigger...

My dealer just got a PX4 in, and the trigger is excellent. I don't know if you've ever handled a Sig P226, but I used to think it was tops in the stock DA/SA wondernine trigger pull department. The PX4 has it beat. SA is about the same (hard to improve on perfection), but DA is lighter, smoother, and more even throughout the length of pull.

The PX4 ergonomics blow the P226 away. Plus it has the chrome lined barrel. I'll be buying one soon.

I was a longtime critic of Beretta substituting plastic parts for metal parts on the 92 series guns, but it's nice to see a fine new Beretta with plastic in all the right places and for a very decent price to boot.

You can't go wrong with a Px4. I love mine. The fit and finish are as fine as you'll see on a polymer auto. The ergonomics are top nothch, as long as your hands aren't too small. It's very soft shooting and accurate. It's slim enough to be a decent CCW gun, also. Plus, it holds 18 rounds of 9mm. The trigger pull is smooth and crisp in both SA and DA. I'm going to go shoot mine in the morning.

It has the trademark Beretta POS double action trigger. The grip is terrible. This gun is a polymer loser.

This I assume you experience it on first hand basis. You bought one already? How much was it?

I rented one here in Vegas. During the last 5 years Beretta has lost it way. The following 9mms in the sub $500 category are far superior to the Beretta: Glock 17, Ruger P95D, CZ P-01, Steyr M9 A1, Sig Pro 2022 and FNP 9

I was also unimpressed with the one I handled. My complaints were the feel of the very large grip and the contrast of the polymer and steel. The lower half did not feel very solid, although it might feel better when loaded. I dont remember the trigger being very good but it sounds like others have. I really wanted this gun to be a hit also since they discontinued the Cougar. The 92's getting old and its pretty much the only gun the have.

I just picked mine up tonight. It is excellent. I was going with a sig 229 but that deal fell through. I saw one at cabelas tonight while I was doing some christmas shopping and took a look at it(had some gift cards to spend).

The trigger was the main selling point, and I like the idea of a polymer pistol and a exposed hammer design. The trigger is excellent, imho. The DA is a bit heavy, but very smooth and the SA is crisp as can be. I havnt fired it much. I just rattled a mag off tonight and it shoots very well(I will know more after the weekend).

The rotating bolt is a neat design and you can feel the twist in the recoil. It really sticks on target well with very little muzzle flip. I think this is really a winner and i cant wait for some accessories to hit the market. I need to get some night sights and a good shoulder rig. I wouldnt hesitate to get this weapon for a second. IMHO its much better then the sw99. Good luck

I've had my PX4 for a while now and actually like it more than my Beretta 92. Although there's a big difference when you cycle the slides on the two, the PX4 feels good in the hand and with a loaded mag, feels similiar in weight to the 92. Accuracy (for me) is better with the PX4. At 10yds I put 3 rounds through the same hole shooting supported off the bench. I'd say it's accurate. Beretta has come back and stated they'll ship out a free set of backstraps to people who have already bought the pistols. Just call them up.

The trigger on mine was less than perfect when I got it. It seemed to squeak and drag a bit. A little tuning and lube solved that and has been great ever since. the trigger breaks at about the same pull weight as my tuned 92 Elite 1A and I feel it shoots better. I wouldn't say recoil is "less" but more like it's pushed straight back by the rotating barrel rather than getting the typical muzzle flip up like other pistols. This surely reduced the perceived felt recoil and makes it a pleasure to shoot.

Accessories have been available for a few months from Brignoli, Italy and I got mine in faster than Beretta USA typically does. I tried out the sm, med, lg backstraps and found the medium (comes with it) fits my hand best. I've added the slim profile decocker levers, slim slide release, lanyard loop, med. mag button and 20 round mag. Everything was easy to install. I had also converted it to a G model (decock only) and have instructions for that if anyone is interested. If you decide to buy one and want a large mag release, I have an extra you can have. Let me know.
