Can anybody give me some info on the Beretta U22 Neos?

Any good?

I have been looking for a nice target/plinker and came across the Neos.

Thanks.

I own three of them and all shoot flawlessly. I shoot Federal bulk pack, Stingers, Mini-Mags and Velocitors with no problems at all. The grip is small and takes a little getting used to. I have fairly large hands. I like the scope rail and the fact that you can buy additional barrels in three total lengths. They are easily changed. My wife says they look like a space gun, but they shoot like a dream.

My wife and I each purchased a Neos. We both like them. We had some problems with jamming early on, but after dissasembly, I found that the guns were bone dry. After lubing them up, they run great.:D I think these guns are "tight" so they need to be broken in and love to be properly oiled. We got Bushnell Trophy Red/Green dots (1x28) for them. Very impressed after sighting them in today with Federal Target ammo. We'll see how they do at perform at pistol league.

P.s. Strange but true: When we were shopping, we held the Buckmark, Ruger and S&W 22A. We shook much more with the other guns. With the Beretta, we didn't shake. We think it is the small grip, but that's basically what SOLD us. Also, can't beat the price. $229

I love mine but on occasion it just doesn't fire. For a while it was one or two every mag. I can't really explain it...I tried different ammos, it's well broken in, and is always cleaned after every session. The strikes or the firing pin seem fine, but they just don't fire sometimes with cheap and expensive and moderately priced ammo. I've been debating sending it back to Beretta but everytime I do, it seems to run 100 rounds moderately ok with only 3 or 4 FTFs. However, the next range session it goes back to a FTF every mag or two. I can't explain it, and I really wish it didn't do it.

.22lr ammo has notoriously bad primers...especially the cheap stuff, but your numbers seem too high. I usually get half a dozen to a dozen misfires to a brick of cheap ammo no matter which gun I use. My Neos is no worse for this than my other .22's.

I like the Neos. I suggest getting the 7.5" vs. the 4.75" barrel. The sight picture is worse with the shorter barrel. Mine was really accurate other than the sights which are tough for my old eyes. I mounted a 4x scope for grins and it is a tack driver.

If you can get over its Sci-Fi prop gun looks they are great shooters. I've all the common .22lr pistols and I rate my Neos as the most reliable with the cheap ammo, Browning Buckmark and S&W M22A would be about a tie for second.

My wife and sister both choose the Neos over all the rest.

Its a great gun for a red dot as the full length rail lets you get the balance right.

Best secondary feature is CDNN still has extra U2 Neos mags for $10 each!

Only negative for me is the thumb safety rotates the wrong way -- up for fire and down for safe.

While it still might be a negative(is a bit to me as well, though I like everything else about mine), I've heard that this was intentional on this model. Somehting about it being designed/marketed as a beginners handgun, so the safety is set in such a way to clearly let you know whether it is on or off. I know I always feel it, and I certainly don't have large hands.

Granted, this doesn't entirely make sense to me, but I go with it because it isn't annoying enough for me to worry much about. :p

On a defensive SA the safety rotation issue would be a show stopper, but on a .22lr, as long as the safety actually works I can live with anything if the rest of the gun is good..

I like mine , no problems after the first 200 rounds, had a few FTFs, i put a 2x scope on it and out to 50 yards it's a good bunny wabbit pistol

+1 for the Neos. It's as reliable as any other .22 I have and I love the integrated rail. I put a cheap chinese holographic red dot sight on it and my kids have a great time with it.

I need to find a decent red-dot or scope for mine. I have a cheap red-dot, but I can't really make it out if there's any sun outside. Might be the battery, but I tried changing that once in winter and didn't seem to do much.

I love my Neos. It's very accurate. It's very easy to field strip. I only have two gripes. I wish the safety lever was a decocker so I didn't have to pull the trigger to decock it. Being a rimfire I opted for snap caps to prevent long-term damage to the firing pin. The other thing is the tang just under the rear sight. When running a brush or patches through the bore I have to be careful not to get too close to that tang. It has bitten me twice already.

But despite those two things I would buy one again in a heartbeat.

"The mechanics of the Neos are based on the old High Standard Duramatic pistol."

As are the S&W and Browning Buckmark.

I like mine OK but not as much as my other 22s. My biggest complaint is the grip angle. If it fits you well, go for it. It just doesn't fit me too well.

Follow up post. We love our two Neos 22. They are very accurate, but found that they only like to digest copper coated bullets. (I use the CCI high velocity hollow points, and we haven't experienced any jams with them. Cheap Federal ammo work ok too, but it doesn't shoot groups as tight as the CCI ammo.
