Beretta vs CZ

These guns feel very different in the hand. I really like the feel of the CZ, and was non-plussed by the Beretta. Others have the opposite reaction.

That said, everybody who has tried my CZ has really liked it: from children and small-handed women, to ham-fisted men. It's definately worth a look.

What KIND of target shooting?

Bullseye (Probably not at 7, 10, 15 yds) or PPC (What about its 50 yard line?) - get Beretta, there are getting to be accurizing procedures and gunsmiths; like 1.5" at 50 yds.

IPSC or IDPA - get the one that sets best in your hand(s) and comes up in line; speed counts and the targets are large. Bear in mind that a standard B92 is DA first shot, the CZ75B can be started cocked and locked (or the hammer eased down for a DA start with a different feel from Beretta.) I shoot the CZ in IDPA SSP, ESP and IPSC Production; Berettas are too big for my hands.

Tin cans - get a good .22.

I lean slightly towards the Beretta. There is alot of talk about the grip being too big, and I guess if you don't have adequately(maybe that isnt the word?) sized hands it would be in fact too big. But I by no means have large hands...I am about 5'11" and 165 lbs. to give you an idea of my size. The Beretta's grip feels great to me (w/ Hogue fingergroove rubber grips)...it fills out my hand perfectly and gives me a nice, solid hold. Now I'm not saying that the CZ-75 feels bad, its grip is very ergonomic but I sometimes feel that the web of my hand is too far in...too close to the trigger and therefore a bit too slim in that region. Takes getting used to when you are used to shooting SIGs and Berettas.

Accuracy is up in the air, as is "look". Pre-bans are cheaper for the Beretta, but the CZ-75 has the option of the .22 conversion kit.

Weigh your options and shoot both if at all possible...either will definitely make you happy.

Being fair, honest and unbiased in this arena is hard.....both guns have outstanding qualities. Seriously, you dont get a rep. like Beretta has without earning it. As far as comparing the CZ to a Beretta...as far as fit, function, dependability, accuracy...it will be a wash across the board. CZ hasnt been "known" like Beretta.
The 92 has more aftermarket support than just about any other gun in history....Glock and 1911's aside.
Ive owned both, shot both, carried the CZ...IMO, the Beretta is carriable just not for me....
I like the CZ better. Its got everything going for it the Beretta has and cost a little less. Support is growing by leaps and bounds. Its gonna be a rough thread...Both guns have die hard supporters...like me and have good cases to state on both sides.
The CZ fits my hands better...feels better balanced and has a better trigger....IMO. The Berettas grip is too damn big...I have very large hands and its still too big.
Shoot both and way the odds. Either way youve done OK...........
Shoot well

I knew I kept bookmarks for a reason. I have had the Berettas. I'm getting the CZ next time out. Why? All steel construction. Thinner than the Beretta if I CCW it. Hakan's grips available for it. Big Dot sight available for it. Same manual of arms (if I want) as a 1911. No slide mounted safety paddles.

And it costs less.

Factory pre-ban 15rd mags can be easily found for the CZ for about $40 or so. Haven't priced the Beretta mags lately, but I suspect they cost more than that. Also, Beretta does make a .22 conversion.

Take care. Marko

I love my Beretta 92FS for carry, and trust its reliability above any other pistol, but my CZ-75BD is both more ergonomic and accurate. For range only, it'd be the CZ for me.

I vote Beretta because my 92FS has a better trigger than any CZ I have tried. Trigger is very important in Bullseye.

Examples of each have shown terrific accuracy.

Both have .22 adapters.

The design, construction and materials of the CZ will outlast the Beretta.

The Beretta is slightly more reliable.

Preban mags are slightly cheaper for the Beretta, and the Asian 92 mags are dirt cheap, yet work.

Grip size is a factor. One will work better for you.

These are both very competent and common military issue pistols. I suppose I would be more likely to go with the CZ, but make up the difference in price with a blued model, rather than polycoat. Given their relative prices in the market, both are actually good values.

I've recently seen 92s for under $500. At that price, they are a great value. Basic CZs I've seen are more like $350 or so now, with pretty ones (polished blue, nickel, two-tone) more like $400-500. My personal preference (owned CZ, shot several M9s in the Army) is strongly in favor of the CZ. Less bulk, about same weight, more reliable, better ergonomics.

I think the CZ (at least w/o FP block) has a bit better trigger. DA might actually be slightly better on the Beretta, but the CZ seems to have a nicer SA pull.

The CZ and Beretta both seem accurate enough, perhaps the edge going to CZ.

The feel of the CZ is a good deal better for me than the slightly-too-wide-for-comfort 92FS that doesn't seem to allow me enough "forward" grip to get it sitting well in my hand.

The Beretta has never failed to feed/fire in 1500+ rounds. The CZ is also reliable, but doesn't have as many rounds through it (from me, at least) to compare.

ftstinyc,

Since I happen to know you are a 1911 fan, I have to suggest you get the CZ. The safety is in the right place, and the SA pull is much better than any Beretta I have handled. In fact I would suggest the CZ-75SA, as I don't think double action is a necessary feature. The SAs are insanely accurate from what I hear. Never saw a Beretta that was anything special in terms of accuracy, although they seem to run on par with most other similar guns. The CZ also has a grip profile much like the BHP, and that is hard to complain about.

i really love the lower bore line of the CZ and it's slimmer slide, every CZ i've handled has had a surprisingly good trigger and it does have the option of condition one carry. i still think of them as an "improved P-35"

the beretta has a non-tilting barrel, a generally better trigger, has been more accurate for me and just seems to "run smoother". i've found the reliability of the beretta to be outstanding.

the beretta is more bulky than the cz, but if you are not carrying it, who cares?

the cz will fit more hands than a beretta. if it fits yours, i'd highly recommend it

You can't compare the reliability of a Military M9 to a civilian Beretta 92. The military beats the heck out of their guns and they are far more likely to have problems that a Beretta you buy from a guy that maybe shot a clip of ammo out of it. Same for the military 1911s, they were old and beat up, no big surprise that they were not always accurate or reliable. Most 1911s that you buy new will be both more accurate and more reliable than a beat up old warhorse.

I can't get passed Beretta's trigger. It has to be pulled all the way back against the frontstrap before it goes off. It's really uncomfortable. If you have smaller hands, it's probably great.

I can't complain about the CZ. The Browning Highpower turned my palm web red within 20 rounds, but the CZ didn't.
