I saw that Midway was charging $70 for 1k 115gr plated round nose, so I bought some. Figured the price was decent considering I can get 1k of 115gr LRN for $62, why not give it a try. Their website says to use data for lead/cast or low to mid range jacketed, so I'll do that.

What's your experience with these bullets? Did this on a bit of a whim so any input is appreciated.

I buy the Berry's Bullets direct from Berry. I do not recommend loading the bullets above the recommended velocities. That said, with risk to life and limb I have never had a problem violating the suggested speed limit. Berry's in my opinion are a superior product.:)

You won't be sorry. It's a great product.

Before you get too far into it, disassemble a production round and make sure your crimp is not so deep that it's piercing the plating. That's about the only time plated bullets misbehave. Your taper crimp should leave just a faint ring around the auto pistol bullet.

Next time look for their "hollow base" series in the same bullet size/shape. They seem to perform marginally better, while loading at the same length and powder load.
.

I use lots of Berry bullets, including the 9mm 115 grain plated RN.

They work well in all my 9mm guns.

I keep velocities below Berry's recommended maximum but have never tried to hot rod them either.

Check Berry Mfg's website, they may have a price better than Midway. I buy most of my Berry bullets directly from Berry but sometimes Midway has a better price.

I've shot several hundred plated bullets in my 1911 45 ACP. But, I don't recommend plated bullets to new reloaders. Newer reloaders seem to have a bunch of problems with load data and crimping. Mebbe because there isn't a lot of easily found data on them yet. I just used lead bullet data and got some very satisfying ammo...

I actually did, and Midway was around $20 cheaper, so they clearly are the winner haha

I don't see why there would be an issue. Their website says what data to use, and even has a page that lists suggested COL. It really is broken down Barney style in this case. Crimping I could see an issue with, I'll probably make a dummy round without powder and test out how much crimp I wanna use just to be sure though.

I'm not gonna hotrod these, just range plinkers. Anything I hotrod is lead or is designed to be driven fast

In all honesty, I only got these because a friend wants some ammo to shoot out of his new Glock. I have some HiTek coated lead, but I haven't shot enough of it out of my stock barrel to feel completely safe giving him some and letting him go at it. So I picked up some plated. I've had no issues so far with mine, but the sample size is too low for my comfort.

I started with Berry's and they are very good, sometimes loaded Ranier and they are very good and have recently bought several calibers of XTreme plated - they are not only very good, they look as shiny as jewelry. For my needs and budget plated bullets more than suffice with no fretting over leading and no conflict with local indoor range rules prohibiting bare lead rounds.

I have shot pallets of them. For the money they are my "go to" plated bullet. They are not as accurate as a decent JHP at 100 yards but at "normal" pistol ranges they are fine.

I really like the Berrys plated bullets. Have loaded 1000's of them to feed my various 44 special, 44 magnum and 40 SW's. Great clean shooting, accurate and economical.

It is only money. But Berry pays the freight on orders over $75 dollars. Midwayusa will allow $10 dollar on orders of $100 dollars or more?

That was a good price on those Berry bullets .

I just bought some xtreme 9mm 124gr. rn for 35.19 for 500 and .38 158gr. rnfp for 42.39 with free shipping from cabela's . I also ordered a Redding .38 tapper crimp die from midway today after I received my bullets . I was all ready to roll some .38's today until I read to use a tapper crimp .

Colorado , I am going to try some of those rmr bullets next time .

Yeah, I have to give another vote for RMR. Just ordered 1000 9mm 124 gr plated for $77. They are pretty well caught up on shipping because I got them in 2 days. Best price and service I have seen anywhere. Oh, and free shipping.

Ain't nothing wrong with Berry's, but for about the same money I can buy Montana Gold jacketed bullets. Their price is very competitive if you purchase by the case.

With that said, I prefer Missouri coated bullets over Berry's due to the cost factor. I have had nothing but excellent results from them. I have a .357 revolver that I have shot about 4k coated bullets out of in the past 2 years and have not cleaned it. The barrel has absolutely no leading.

I can also give RMR a thumbs up. I have got some great deals from them and had nothing but good service.

If I could get MG bullets for the same price as berry's I would have a truck load on the way here today.

I use 125 gr JHP Montana Gold in .357. A case of 3750 is $360 shipped. I believe that works out to 9.6 cents per bullet.

A look at Berry's website shows their 125 gr hollow point to be $98 per 1k.....9.8 cents each.

Yeah, I wouldn't use them if I had to pay MSRP. Dlr on the 125g hp is 74.53/1000 and if I order 20k at a time they are $65.22/1000.

That said the MG bullet is a better bullet and if your loading for 357 mag a much better choice because the plated bullets don't hold up very well past 1200 fps.
