Hi folks, I ended up with 3000 of these Berrys 9mm 115gr flat points in an estate purchase. My Dillon 650 is already set up with CFE so I was hoping to find a decent recipe for these. I load my 115gr V-crowns and 115gr Gold Dot's at 5.7gr and 1.120 OAL and they perform extremely well. Always have. I started the Berrys at 5.0gr and 1.085 on the OAL. Berry's called for 1.060 but wanted to start a bit longer. I had a couple that didn't eject properly and the top 1/4 of the case was black. I haven't found a lot of info on the flat points especially with CFE. There're probably better choices on powder, but CFE is what I have. Has anyone worked with the flat nose Berrys? Any input appreciated. Thank you.

I observed a lot of case scorching when I loaded 45 with cfe. I did not see that in 38. Normally the answer is to go higher for a better seal.

I don't have the 115's but I load the 124 gr plated FP over 5.0 gr CFEP at 1.085" and they make 990 fps out of my SW Shield and 946 fps out of my Ruger LC9. No issues with function, and clean burning. CFEP is probably my top powder for 9mm but after using it in a couple other applications including .357 mid-range loads, it seems to perform more efficiently at higher pressure levels.

@MInerJohn, welcome to THR!
I’ve never loaded the Berry’s FP but Hodgonreloading.com has a recipe for the 115gr GDHP that’s at 1.125”. I’d be tempted to use it as a starting point. Good luck.

I have found CFE-P leaves cases dirty at charges in the lower part of its range. Seemed to shoot well, so I don't worry about dirty cases.
Holes on target and function matter to me not dirty cases, 5.0gr looks under the start charge for some 115s so I would bump it up .1 or .2gr and see if that clears up your ejection issue.
Always wise to reduce the charge when going shorter but I think you have some wiggle room to play with.

My thought would be with the dirty cases you are describing you are running at lower pressures at the OAL you are using so there should be room to bump up.

I have only reloaded the 115 gr. RN from Berry's in that weight. I started at 5.0 gr. of CFE-P and stopped at 5.6 gr. 5.6 gr. gave me 1134 fps average from 5 shots out of a 4" barrel.
Hornady has listed in their 10th edition a max of 6.0 gr. for their RN. Their 115 gr. HAP, they start at 4.7 gr. and max is listed at 5.8 gr. for a velocity of 1200 fps. The HAP OAL is 1.075". Now these are jacketed, but if it were me, I'd start at the 4.7 gr. and work up, noting at what weight the slide locks back on last round, and go maybe .3 gr. higher. If I wasn't using a chronograph.

Your charge is to low and how did you determine your COL? Why longer? Did you plunk test in your barrel
