Im looking to purchase a .338 lapua tactical rifle but dont really know where to start I have fired a H-S Precision HTR .338 Lapua but they dont make them any more so I have to get another make.

Did you see the one in the Trading Post. Van Dyke custom. I guy at the range I go to has one and loves it. I haven't shot but have seen it shot numberous times and it always preforms.

I did see the one in the trading post but havent gotten a reply yet and Im unfortanetly to impatient to sit around waiting for him to reply so Im going to continue look Im thinking about the Sako TRG42 in od green

Desert Tactical's Stealth Recon Scout is intriguing.

Friend got a Dakota and it wouldn't shoot worth anything until he had GA Precision re-bed it and replace the barrel. FWIW...

Good info. thanks; however that is a dissappointing thing to hear for a $5-6K rifle.

I am in the market and closing cautiously. For a 4 +/-1 K$ gun, what would you suggest for further review.

Under $4k, I would look at two choices:

1. SAKO TRG-42

2. Surgeon XL action built by GA Precision

In my opinion, there's not enough experience out there with the SRS to give it a recommendation yet. It certainly looks interesting. I am not a fan of bull-pup bolt-action rifles, however. That's the extent of my opinion on the SRS.

If brass/ammo prices are too steep in 338LM, look at the 338 RUM. It has virtually the same ballistics as the LM.

If your price range is 3 - 5k, a used AI-AWSM might fit. Retail on the basic 338LM model AI is now $5880 (2008 prices).

I've only shot the Armalite AR-30 and I thought it was incredibly accurate and had about as much recoil as a .243 when shot from the prone with the bipod and muzzle break.

Well Im waiting to here back from Desert Tactical from the looks of things it might take a while Im really impatient went it comes to buying new guns Im like a little kid waiting for chritmas to come :neener:

Well money isnt one of my big issues but Im not sure I could ever justify paying 12,000 dollars for a rifle.

Get the most expensive one. Although I wouldn't particularly want a semi auto. If you can get one that has the words "tactical, recon, sniper, scout, or special" in the name, that would add a few points.

Ain't America great? We are such a wealthy nation that we can want something just to have it.

Ron, what are you going to use it for? I would suggest that you call Zak Smith on the phone and talk to someone knowledgable about what might suit you.
