okay now 60 gr, 55 or 75 note i have a 1x7 twist ak-47 16" barrel with muzzle brake i want to be able to take a shot from far away and also in my bedroom so whats the all purpose 60?

I stuff my mags with 55gr FMJs that have a cannelure. At basically point blank distances of a potential HD scenario, these will do exactly what they're designed to do. Rounds designed for LE tactical guys are great, I'm sure, but in my house I don't need to penetrate windshields or radiators before target, and I don't need to shoot beyond 150 yards. I definitely don't need to spend almost $200 just to test the ammo for reliability and then another $60 to fill my mags.

the duty rounds mentioned in that article don't seem to make much sense to me in this topic. They talk alot about rounds that were made to have better penetration, yet that is niether a quality desired for HD situations, nor is it a shining quality in the .223's intended purpose, nor of the round itself.

Get yourself some highly frangible ammo like Hornady TAP. If not, then at least keep along the lines of something like 55gr or higher. With normal or frangible ammo, overpenatration should be an unlikely problem - especially with TAP.

+1 on the it doesn't matter all that much at legitimate SD/home defense ranges.

You'd probably be better served saving your money you'd spend on top end ammunition and putting it towards taking a tactical carbine class from a reputable instructor. If you can make the hits at point blank range, most anything, including the much-maligned on the internet M855 green tip, will fragment -- and shot placement is more important than fragmentation anyway (though having both is a nice enough thing . . .).
