I am considering a PX4 and would like to know whether it would be a good choice. What, in you opinion, is the best polymer gun under five or six hundred for production class?

The best USPSA Production gun at any price is the Glock 17. Happily, you'll be able to find one for well under your $500-600 budget. Get five or six magazines, a good kydex holster, four magazine carriers, and some grip tape from Trugrip.

The Glock may soon get some competition from the Springfield XD9 and the S&W MP9/MP40, but that day is in the future. Another good choice is the CZ PO-1, but you did say polymer frame, so...

I will second Chris in recommending the G17 for production, that is what I use. A great gun, should be under $500 new, absolutely fantastic quality magazines are less than $20 each, aftermarket support for sights and so on is probably the most extensive out there. You won't have ANY problems finding a holster that suits you and your budget, you won't have any trouble finding spare parts. You won't have any trouble finding someone to work on it if you should ever have problems. They are very friendly to shoot, accurate too. Not to forget that you will look long and hard to find a more reliable gun.

There is a LOT going for Glocks, TONS more than goes against them.

Second on my list would be a G34.

I wouldn't recommend the PX4, not yet anyway. Support for them is next to zero if not zero. As they become more popular the support will come, then it will be much more in the running.

I really like shooting the CZ's and Beretta 92 style guns, but the long trigger reach for the first shot is really a bother for me with my small hands.

I have both a PX4 and a Glock 17 -- and the PX4 would be my clear choice. I just shoot it better. As far as support, Comp-Tac just came out with holsters for the PX4. They aren't listed on the website yet - you have to call. They're providing their usual quick delivery - not the 8-10 weeks that BladeTech is delivering. I'm a big fan of Comp-Tac products and use them whenever I can. I'll be ordering one soon and putting my PX4 to use.

I use a glock19, the 17 would be a better choice but i carry the 19 every day so i like to shoot what i carry. I do pretty good with the 19 against the 17"s and 21"s and i do use 17 mags in competition.

I'm picking up a S&W M&P 40 for production class...its not legal yet for uspsa but for club shoots its fine...just a matter of a few weeks. That being said ipsc guys are shooting glocks, XDs, 92 Berettas, CZs, and just about whatever an individual likes. I shot an XD for awhile but the take down lever was in the wrong place for my grip and hands. The CZ sp01 is nice. But what's really caught my eye is the M&P. The bottom line is: get what you like the most. Unless you are a highly classified uspsa shooter trying to get the most competitive edge, you'll be shooting for fun, right? My son and I shoot Limited seriously (8k rounds so far this year) but production for fun and the enjoyment of shooting a gun that we just want to shoot.

I LOVE my PX4, but I think the GLOCK is a much better bet, fewer moving parts, easier to maintain if you develop a high-round relationship, more aftermarket support and easier to locate accessories, better and consistent trigger (1st DA pull on the PX4 is garbage). It's a beautiful pistol, but the GLOCK IMO is a better bet.

Also look at the SIG Pro, VERY robust with what is probably the world's best stock DA pull.

How often do you shoot ipsc and do you compete in major shoots or just at the club level? If you are a high volume shooter putting several thousand rounds downrange a year then you want something with proven performance and durability and should listen carefully to what ipsc production class guys are shooting. If you are shooting the monthly club shoots for fun putting a few thousand rounds a year downrange then just about any firearm you take a fancy to will fit the purpose. If you like the PX4 go for it. As I said in my earlier post my son is a nationally ranked uspsa shooter in Limited. He is also looking at the PX4 for production class, for fun club level shooting, because he likes it. So, in a few months he'll be shooting the PX4 against me with the M&P...can't wait. Of course I can't touch him in Limited the little 16yr old snot! But maybe in production? A man can dream.

Of the newer poly guns, I really like the Steyr. Of the more established guns on the market, I like the HK USP & Glocks
Have fun!

I've shot both the Glock and XDs. For me the deciding factor was ergonomics. There is a major difference between grip angles and the XD suited me much better. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot a PX4 yet. I recommend you shoot all and pick the one you like best.
