been lookin at some polymer guns lately, most defenatly, the taurus 24/7 oss. i cant wait till it finally comes out. but... what types of polymer guns do you guys like. there seems to be more and more coming out lately. glock, s&w m&p, beretta px4 storm, fnp ....and the list goes on and on. what would you guys choose, and why?

I carry and shoot Glocks and M&Ps mainly.

I have no particular aversion to the XD. I've just never shot it well.

I've tried a Sig Pro and didn't like the grip.

Haven't tried the Walther P99 nor the Beretta PX4.

I chose the Glocks because of their incredible reliability. I chose the M&Ps because of superior ergonomics. YMMV.

What would we choose for what?

What is the intended purpose of the gun manufacturers in question?

For concealed carry I personally like in order:
G19/23
M&P9c/40c
G26/27
Walther P99/c
HK P30
SIG P250
HK P2000/sk
Walther PPS
Ruger SR9
XD9

For range/competition fun I personally like in order:
G34/35
M&P9/40/45
XD9/40/45

Those are the ones that I have personally got to handle. The models that I have not actually shot yet are the SIG P250, HK P30, PPS, and SR9.

I only own the G19. I plan to purchase the G34/35 at some point.

I would choose the XD hands down...

Since Springfield has changed to the new melonite finish (which is the same finish as Glocks just a different trade name) I think the XD can hold it’s own, if not beat the Glock.

Some of the improvements/advantages (at least to me) are:

*Fully Supported Chamber
*Ability to shoot lead rounds(steal targets) & reloads
*Grip Angle (points naturally straighter like a 1911)
*Grip+Trigger Safety
*Loaded chamber and cocking indicator
*Sights made of metal, not plastic
*Trigger is made of metal, not plastic
*Guide Rod is made of metal, not plastic
*True ambi mag release
*Springfield’s Lifetime Warranty and Customer Service

You'll get lots of answers. Personally, get a Glock and a good holster and belt. No need for a grip safety. Keep it simple. Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot!

I would choose Glock hands down.

*Almost Fully Supported Chamber that allows a very wide range of ammo to be chambered reliably.

*Ability to shoot most any jacketed round reliably.

*Grip Angle (for me the Glock points naturally straighter unlike a 1911)

*Only has a Safe Action Trigger Safety
No grip safety to give you a false sense of security.
I don't see how a grip safety makes a pistol more safe. Any way I can think of to accidentally fire the pistol would have my hand on the Grip safety anyway.

*Loaded chamber and no redundant cocking indicator
Glock has a loaded chamber indicator and the cocking indicator on the XD only tells you what you already know: The slide was cycled and the trigger hasn't been pulled yet.

*Sights made of cheap plastic that doesn't add much to the manufacturing cost of the gun.
I like XS Big Dots and would take off the factory site even if it wasn't plastic.

*Trigger is made of light weight plastic not heavy metal.

*Guide Rod is made of light weight and flexible plastic not heavy rigid metal.

*Left side mag release because face it, we live in a right handed world. ;)

*Glock has a great warranty and trusts that the customer can order replacement parts when needed. Try to order a part from Springfield. Springfield has great customer service because you will need them every time you want to replace a part. Glock parts are everywhere. I think the kid down the street gives them out for free if you buy her Koolaid. I should know, I drink A LOT of koolaid.:neener:

legislator,

Welcome to the High Road.

Is it possible that the rail is throwing you off? Some of the 21sf were produced with the 1913 picatinny rail. Others were produced with the standard Glock rail. Perhaps that is the difference that you are noticing? Just a guess, as I know of no other variation with that particular gun.

Glocks of course.

Polymer frame/receiver guns are best choice mainly for it's light weight. Most LEOs don't want to add an extra 2-3 pounds on their belt. Most Glocks are under 2lbs., without a full mag of course.

i am really wanting a 45 acp.. i was very interested in the 1911, but am likeing the new technology more and more. i really am in love with the taurus 24/7 oss, but they havent come out yet, nor does anyone know when they will. i have looked at the xd's and they seem to get good reviews. plus i thin kthat springfield makes a quality product. i just wanted to see what others carry, and use. i like to see what REAL people think and not go by what manufacures say.

Ruger or XD.

Glocks, M&P, and the Berreta PX4 do not fit my hand well.
I had a Ruger P95 and it was a nice gun with a good grip after a Houge Handall was installed. I traded it off on a p97 a while back but have'nt had the chance to shoot it yet, but it is very simular to the p95. I perfer the Ruger Ps because I like the DA/SA action over the DAO and Glock type actions found on most polymers. One exception is the XD because the grip fits good in my hand.

I shoot Glocks well. I like the features and the way an XD feels, but I don't shoot my new XD45 as well as I did my G19. I don't have enough range time on it yet though. I don't know if it's me or the gun.

A Ruger P97 is my every day carry gun. It fits my hand, is accurate, conceals well for a .45 and works every time.

I carry a GLOCK G30 (sub .45) only FTF was on account of ammo, not the gun. If I had the wisdom I have now, I would have bought the G36 (slimline). Love the GLOCK platform.

poly

got a Rami 9p, not one failure, good carry, great feel i n the hand specially with the 14 rd mag and find a desantisE85 holster for perfect fit!

I have one each of the Glock 27, HK USP in .40, and a Sigma.
First off the Sigma is one that I can't even bear to take to the range let alone carry. I personally find it uncomfortable in my hand and I abhor the trigger.
Between the other two, I find that the Glock 27 (with pinky grip extensions) fits and conceals nicely in a Galco Ankle holster for daily carry, while my HK USP is quite comfortable in my IWB holster. Overall, I really like the composite weapons in my safe (except for the sigma) and wouldn't hesitate to carry either one on a daily basis if it weren't for my deep emotional commitment to my 1911 4". :p Never had ANY problems with either one.
