Best All Around Gun?

In Hoglegs, Hipshots & Jalepenos, Skeeter Skelton asked the same question to Dobe Grant. Dobe starts with four guns, "and damned if I'll get rid of any of 'em" - a scoped .30-06 for sniper work and hunting, a 12-gauge pump shotty, a .44 Magnum (I forget if he specified DA or SA, Ruger, Smith or Colt), and a .22 revolver. Revolvers were chosen so there were no mags to loose.

Bit by bit, Skeeter whittled down the list...first to go was the shotty. The '06 went next because Dobe was such a good pistol shot the rifle wasn't necessary. When it came down to the two wheelguns, Dobe got mad and stormed out of the house.

When he came in, he was carrying two rabbits he shot out by the barn and he had his answer: a Winchester pump .22 rifle.

If it's good enough for Dobe, it's good for me, except I'll stick with my old scoped Marlin bolt-action .22. And I'll take it over the Ruger BA or the Marlin mag-fed rifles because I don't have a mag to loose. That's a good idea. Harder to clean a tube mag - true - but less to loose.

Ford.....Chevy.....Dodge.

definitely ford. but an F350, not that 150 crap. :)

as to the actual question, i will join the chorus of folks that say a 4" or 3" .357 magnum. if it didn't have to serve as CCW, then either a 12g pump or a .30-30 lever.

but obviously i'll never actually choose just one, so...

Ruger P345
or
Ruger SP101 in 357
both are handy, concealable, versatile, powerful, durable and cost effective.

smith Airweight 38+p,
easy to conceal, lite and easy to handle with manageable recoil, on the trail, load it with bird shot, and carry two speed loaders,WHEN, lots of firepower is needed, Wheel guns are much more dependable and less maintenance.

What in your opinion is THE best all around gun for everything ccw, hiking, targets, size, mag capacity, ect?

To many variables for to many situations . It's the reason there are so many models/sizes/calibers/etc . If there WAS a gun that could do it all , and do it better than the rest , there would be no need for any other models etc to exist .

Saying that , my personal preference for the "best all around gun" for me is my XD45. It covers the most bases for me .

I vote for my Firestorm Mini 9mm. Cost me under $300 new, holds 13 +1 rounds, is compact but not too small and is reliable. Now if $$$ was not a factor there are better guns out there but I stand by the Bersa/Firestorms for one of the better value/bang for the buck guns out there that meet all of the OPs criteria.

Glock 19--nothing else comes close to covering so many bases.

Now that's a good one. Actually, nothing can beat the .45 colt revolver I mentioned in covering so many bases, and certainly not a 9mm pistol. Admittedly though, the 9mm pistol is not THAT far behind the .45 colt revolver in versatility. I guess it's all in how you *weight* the different functions.

The matter is not open to debate. The answer is known.:D

The Mauser K98k stands above all others in rank, importance, or achievement.
