Im considering buying a high quality auto loader for range use. I have a glock 17 and im fairly happy with its accuracy and function but I want a gun that is all stainless and more solid feeling, not to mention good looking.

My budget is $1000 and the gun must be all stainless. Im thinking along the lines of a stainless 92fs or browning high power. I like the balance and looks of the inox beretta but the number of moving parts made me uneasy. I havent actually handled the browning but it looks solid.

I've only fired a few rounds of .45acp but Im open to going that route as well. I do like having more than 8 rounds to work with.

Suggestions?

Isn't an all stainless 92FS insanely rare? Most of them have aluminum frames.

There aren't that many all stainless 9mm or 45s out there. The SIG 226 is available in all stainless as is the CZ75. Otherwise there are a bunch of 1911s.

I have a 92FS Inox, excellent gun but keep in mind the frame is anodized aluminum and not stainless steel.

I have a S&W 639 that I'll never let go - and for the very reasons you said.

Can't go wrong with the choices from Beretta, CZ, and Sig stated above. I've had each of these as well as the Browning. I've been through two modern hi-powers and have found them to be gritty and prone to failure.

Since you've had all three, which would you choose? :)

I don't think Hi-Power was ever made in stainless.

What "number of moving parts" in the 92FS that makes you uneasy? It's a top-notch pistol. Chances are parts won't break on you out of the blue, under normal (unabused) use. But even if they did, finding replacement parts are easy, because this is not some obscure gun.

The CZ75B in polished stainless is a beauty, but I just can't get used to its slippery grip. Even with the VZ grips I put on, the front and back straps are so smooth that I can't get a good traction on.

Kazaam--- that's a hard one... I'd probably go with the Beretta. It just feels "right". The CZ is prettier, and the Sig is fantastic, but I really do like the Beretta.

Of the two you listed, I would go with the Inox 92. They are harder to find then hen's teeth, but are beautiful guns. The only one I got to handle was gone by the time I was ready to purchase. This was my next choice. (I like the safety decocker on the frame better than on the slide.)

For a range pistol, high capacity is not a requirement in my book. What I recommend is a 1911 in .45, something like a Ruger SR1911. cost about $699. For about your max SIG 1911 Target Stainless, would be even better. SA pistols usually have much better triggers than a DA/SA pistol. The CZ is a fine pistol and I have owned or shot extensively a CZ75B , 75D PCR, and SP01 models, their stock triggers fall way short of my expectations. However I have shot an SP01 from Angus' Custom Shop, excellent trigger in DA, and wow in SA. My choice would be get a nice stainless 1911 like a Springfield Armory, S&W, Sturm Ruger, or my choice a SIG Sauer. 1911 should shoot circles around any of the 9mm pistols listed so far. If you want to stay with a 9mm S&W SW1911 Pro 9mm would be near you top $. Taurus makes a suprisingly good 9mm 1911 with a ramped barrel, real Novak sights, forged frame, and about a 3# trigger, all for under $800. My best shooting pistol is a 9mm 1911 from STI, numbers 2-4 are all 1911s too.

Your not going to find a stainless Browning Hi Power. Silver Chrome, yes, but not stainless. I'd get the stainless 75B.

If you want a stainelss .45 ACP, Colt makes some nice 1911's in stainless, as does Springfield, but I prefer the Colt.

...and the gun must be all stainless. Im thinking along the lines of a stainless 92fs or browning high power.

Given that neither Beretta 92FS nor the Browning HP can be had in all stainless (as noted above), have you since revised your requirements?

Suggestions?

The 5906/3906 seem like good options as does the stainless CZ75.

If you want an all-stainless .45ACP and have a $1000 budget, in my opinion it's impossible to beat the Colt XSE.

I don't believe you'll find a Hi-Power or M92 in stainless. I have a M96 INOX and it simply doesn't compare to the Hi-Power or 1911s.

The Colt XSE has been a work horse for me and comes highly recommended. :)
