Best AR mags

I'm pretty much just buying D&H for new mags, although I have about a dozen HK Maritime mags. The HKs are great, but I just don't think they're worth 2-3 times what the D&H or comparable mags cost.

For the same price as one HK mag you can get 3-4 Pmags from Magpul that perform at exactly the same level. Still though many don't like the polymer type, and have to have HK. Check out the video floating around where they torture test the Pmags and see for yourself how well they hold up.

D&H, PMAG, NHMTG, and OK Industries are very good. If you want/need steel but don't want junk or overpriced hype (HK), look at Cproducts. www.44mag.com has some of the prices around.

Forgot to add the where: I purchased most of my HK mags off of Gun Broker. You can find them for $35-$45 if you are lucky or buy 3-4 at a time.

I think those are snap-caps coming out...I wouldn't expect magazine shards to be consistently ejecting out of the chamber in the same direction half a dozen times in a row ;)

I see. I only noticed the first one.

I've had a dozen stainless steel C Products mags for about 2 years. They have performed flawlessly at many rifle matches and a rifle class. Some have been dropped, some buried in mud, all are still 100% functional.

The marlube finish can be scratched, but it's pretty durable.

I just traded for 10 more. BSW

I have been using Brownells 30 shot magazines and also their 20 shot straight side magazines and am totally satisfied with the performance.

They are offered with the choice of stainless steel or chrome silicone magazine springs and standard gree followers or you can order them with MagPul anti tilt followers and Ranger base plates for an additional charge.

I also have some magazines that I have fitted with CMMG stainless steel followers and braided wire chrome silicone magazine springs.

All of the magazines I have been using, and this includes a selection of all choices, have been totally reliable.

Brownells puts the standard magazines on sale for $12.50 regualrly and these are also some of the least expensive brand new magazines on the market.

I have two C-Products stainless steel magazine bodies fitted with CMMG stainless steel followers and braided wire springs and these are, as stated previously, built truck tough.
They show no signs of ever wearing out, are comparable to steel AK magazines for durability and the whole kit costs less than an H&K M16 magazine.

H&K magazines are very well made but when I can buy three 30 shot magazines for less than the cost of a single H&K magazine, I cannot justify the purchase.

I also have three MagPul PMags.
These too have proven reliable and drop free in all rifles, however, they do have a few issues.
When fully loaded I find that the cartridges rattle in the magazine body.
They require the included feed lip cover to protect the lips when fully loaded and stored.
Because of slight changes in dimensions these magazines do not fit well in standard M16 pouches, you have to use modern design Molle type pouches if you want a full compliment of magazines in the pouch.

All in all. what I have seen is that almost all current production magazines are hands and feet above any older magazines in quality and reliability.

Any USGI mags are a safe bet.
If you are referring to the cheap, used, surplus mags, they are hit and miss. Some are damaged, and worn enough or have other problems that preclude flawless operation. For only a couple bucks more, you can get some brand new, commercial mags. I personally prefer C-Products- $12.35 gets you a rock solid aluminum body mag, with a CS spring, and a Magpul follower. There are other good brands to.

PMAGS seem like they are really durable- from the promo videos that I have seen. They are also $5 more (even more with window) per than brand new aluminum mags, and I've heard that sme people experiecne magwell tightness issues with them.

The early Colt 20 rounders (with the metal folowers) are good mags, if you can find them for a good price, provided that they weren't abused in some past life.

That Pmag video is very convincing! Would love to have one, I've seen a few people with them in my country, so I know they are available...

Been told that polymer magazines for the AR can easily have broken and cracked feed lips over time, is this true with the Pmag? Been told that it is with a different polymer brand.

Nope, not talking used and abused mags. I am talking about new magazines.

Heckler & Koch High reliability mags are the best hands down.

I would disagree. The PMAG's are more durable. Not to mention they are lighter and less expensive.
