the pistol wont be a ccw but will be used for toting around hunting, hiking and target practice

Is it that time of the day for another "good budget 1911" thread? Try the search function. I think this gets covered every week.

I picked up a Charles Daly EFS about two weeks ago. I have put around 700 rounds through it with only one FTE. They are made in the same factory as Rock Island and CD customer service has improved by leaps and bounds.

Budget 1911

For 5 and some change you can't go wrong with the Taurus PT 1911. I have purchased two, one stainless and one blued. They come with all the bells and whistles of a high dollar 1911 for half the price. I have put over 1000 rounds through both pistols with no complaints. And you gotta love that LIFETIME warranty! www.snakeriverarms.com

I realize you're talking about the Argentine model AFTER the Ballester-Molina, but don't buy a Ballester-Molina.

Non-ergonomic, unpleasant to shoot, not particularly accurate. Not to mention the lack of a few safety features making me unsure that I'd be happy carrying it for any purpose.

The gun range I belong to has/had? a Rock Island Armory
Tactical for $489 I remembered to bring along a couple of
Snap caps and after I was done with live ammo I asked to take
it on the range. I put a SNap cap in and dry fired it. Nice
trigger, Slide to frame fit was good It's a bit lighter blue than
the black of a CZ but it's called parkerized. The
Tactical has Novak like dovetailed sights, ambi thumb
safety &a beavertail Grip Safety

Advanced Tactical in Neveda is the RIA Customer Service
company.. One of them frequents the "Other 1911s" area
of the 1911Forum.

I have three RIA's and love them all. I think they're great guns for entry-level 1911's. They're well-made, reliable, and accurate, and well worth their price. Actually better than their price, IMO. I'm not going to try and "rate" them on a scale, but I sure as Hell wouldn't put Kimber at #10. I've heard too many negatives about Kimber's.

the rock island is what im thinking about but i heard the fit is iffy some times and its best to handle the one you are buying

anyone else noticed bad fit?

how are the llama pistols?

Another vote for Rock Island. I have their basic GI model. High Standard and I believe Charles Daley are made by RIA. I would stay away from Llamas. Parts are not interchangable with 1911 or clones. Poor reputation for reliability.

One of my Rocks was mail ordered, absolutely NO problems with it. The other two I bought in person, but did no "comparison shopping", didn't need to.

One thing to keep in mind, is the Rock Islands have SUPERB customer service, provided by the importer, Advanced Tactical. You don't have to send them back to the Philippines, AT takes GOOD care of all RIA customers. I don't know if they warranty the High Standards or old Charles Daly's though.

Armscor makes the RIA line and High Standards, but no longer makes the Charles Daly. Never heard of Safari Arms.

thanks alot guys if i can get my dang checks from the govt(long story but i get a monthly check id its a month late :( ) anytime soon im gonna get one at the next gun show
