I can't decide between the spring mil spec, Taurus pt1911, and someone mentioned a colt in another thread. What is the best one under 600?

I like my RIA tactical. "best one" is going to be really subjective, I would suggest to just pick one you like and shoot well!

If you can find a good used Colt for under $600 that would be my choice. But when you tired of waiting/looking you just can't beat the Springfield Mil-Spec. It also has a no questions asked lifetime warranty that pays shipping both ways.

RIA and its counterparts is the best unpolished deal. $450
Taurus PT1911 is the next best step up and better polished. $550

I own both and like them alot.

I Love the RIA Tactical. Saves you some money (more for ammo) and it is backed by great customer service.

I'm a Springfield fan myself. So.. start there. If you want to save a bit of coin, the RIA looks real good.

RIA Tactical, ATI FX Series, American Classic, Citadel, STI Spartan, Springfield Mil-spec/GI, Remington R1 are all good guns for about $600

Ria and American Classic ll both can be had for $450ish. Usually no problems with either.

My first choice would be a RIA Tactical. Next would be a used Colt if you can find one at a decent price, followed by a Springfied Armory Mil-Spec. I have seen the Magnum Research M1911 in that price range (Bud's Gun Shop has them for $635), but I can't comment on their quality; seemed like a decent enough gun.

.....But I recommend losing the whole "budget" idea with 1911's. They open up a whole new world around $2000. Getting a 1911 "just right" and in the price range of a Glock is really tough, if not impossible, to do.

Ed Brown.
Les Baer.

Maybe try a TT-33. Not precisely a 1911, but similar in many ways. Its thinner, lighter and unless you're chambered for 9x23, delivers more energy. Wait a minute...you can chamber the TT for 9x23 as well. Anyway, unlike my Colt, it will function reliably without first investing in a lot of expensive gunsmithing.

One option to consider.

I agree with this statement 100%. It is worth paying for a Wilson or Ed Brown; else, get a Glock, XD, etc.

The RIA's are very good for the price, and are absolutely viable weapons. Yeah, they're no Les Baer, but they're a valid choice for someone who doesn't want a glock.

Hello all, RON L here, for a Decent $ 45, I chose a RIA as well, Not a Tactical, but with a few mods now mine is about like one! I like Springfied as well, but the Colts I have owned and seen in the last decade are simply a name, lost the edge on Quality and inovation! Yea they re-sell well, but, thats not what one should buy a gun to have? Thats how Springfiend Armory got thier srat and how RIA was able to get a corner in the market! Like the AR-15, Colt has Lost the edge and will never get it back!

+1 on American Classic II Delux

I love mine.
