Best compact single stack CC gun?

My humble opinion!

To use a pistol as a CCW for someone who is NOT James Bond is a mistake. I don't want to have a jam when a 6'-4" 280# guy is running toward me.
Buy a revolver S&W model 60...I loved it!!!

There are really two classes of CCW in my opinion; mouse guns and others.

Mouse guns in general are Kel-tec, Seecamp, and Rohrbaugh (maybe Kahr too). These are truly tiny guns that are rather unique unto themselves, and can be concealed under some of the toughest conditions. Many people will not carry due to size, cost, or stigma.

Others like Kahr, Glock, etc. are generally reduced size versions of previous models. They generally have greater capacity, weight, options. They are what most people would prefer to carry if the option is available.

I guess what I wanted was something bigger than a mouse gun but smaller than a sub compact. Or just a large caliber mouse gun. I like the MK40. I think its just big enough and just small enough.:D

Im gonna go take a look at one tomorrow and then Im going to see about putting one on layaway.

I carry a CZ 2075 RAMI in .40 S&W. Even though it's an 8+1 double stack it's quite small, light, suprizingly accurate, and so far reliable. I have a pocket holster for jacket pockets and an IWB for normal carry. Too big for pants pockets. I carry my P3AT there. I like it because I shoot it very well and its easy to carry and conceal.

All of the Kahrs I have experience with have been unreliable... otherwise I would never have sold mine...

My Makarov does alright, it's very thin but the 9x18 cartridge is not my favorite and I don't love the DA trigger on the Mak.

Right now I am looking at either a Springfield 1911 Ultra compact or a Kel Tec PF-9... but I am leaning towards the 1911...

If only Glock would make a 9mm single stack sub compact....

Once again, it's supply and demand. People want them and the supply isn't meeting the demand. The cost of making a pistol has nothing to do with its selling price. Colt learned this the hard way.

Which Kahrs have you owned?

Only a K9. I would have bought a PM9 but 2 of my brothers and even a cousin of mine had PM9's and they all had issues... My older brother also had owned an MK9 that was not terribly reliable... They even had to send theirs in.

The steel frame Kahrs are better IMO, but still not good enough.

Another vote for the Sig P239. My personal favorite daily carry gun.

Disadvantages: Slightly larger than a Kel-Tech P11 or a Kahr CW9 or something like that.

Advantages: 100% dead nuts utterly reliable every time. Usually much more accurate than the person shooting it. The SA/DA with decocker lets you carry with a round in the chamber, decocked, and still ready to fire without remembering to cock or remove a safety.

Question about smith and wesson.

I have been looking at some of the SW semi automatics and I was wondering if they make any that com with out safetys. Id like to carry a firearm with out a safety lever.

Thanks:)

The 3953 is the DAO version of the 3913. No safety levers.

From world.guns.ru, the third digit in S&W's 3rd gen numbering scheme indicates action type. xx4x, xx5x, and xx8x are the DAO operation versions.

Ok- Stupid Question. Can anyone explain why the P7M8's are so expensive? Is it the gas-delayed blowback system?

I would say the quality is pretty high compared to other brands, and I can see it would take longer to assemble then a 1911, some intricate parts fit together.

Nothing special about the gas delayed blowback system that makes it more expensive, unless tolerances like the gas piston and cylinder need to be very tight.

Here is what a thin little PSP (early P7) can do at 15 yrds semi-rapid fire. 50 shots by the way.

Why is it expensive? Because it is made from something real guns used to be made of.... Steel, expensive steel at that, and darn hard stuff!

Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II in .45 ACP. While most user's denounce the carry of a 1911 with barrels less than "Commander Length (4.25"), I have had
0 issues with this 3" barrel Kimber. It has digested all major brands of ammo,
to include all bullet weights of JHP's without a hitch. Recoil is sharp, but it is
manageable. Its 25 oz. weight, and stainless steel construction make it a joy
to CCW~!;) :D

My choice is also a Bobtailed 1911 Commander or an Officers size 1911. I have and carry both and actually find that my Bobtailed Commanders conceal better than my 3 incher.

I think 1911s are very nice looking weapons, they also have nice ergonomics. Id like to own one eventually however I just couldnt use one for CC. I know if you get the right one with the right extractor and the right springs and the right mags with the right follower and the right type of bullet youll likely have a very reliable gun, however I just couldnt trust one. I think they are great, just not for me. I wish they made a decocker only DA/SA model 1911. Maybe without the grip safety and with a one piece feed ramp/barrel. That would be awesome.

I have looked at everything except a couple of the SW compacts. Having looked I have just about decided on the MK9 or MK40. I have been doing alot of reading on the .40 to help me decide on with one I want to use.
